23. 3D Scanning
Instead of having to rely on
out-of-date drawings or estimated
measurements to engineer and plan
projects, Petrus Engineering Division
utilizes state of the art 3D Scanning
equipment to deliver a precise,
up-to-date image of any job site. By
improving accuracy and providing

used to engineer solutions into
projects, or provided to clients for their
own use. Either way, Petrus provides a
head-start that can save valuable time
and money during engineering work
scopes and long after the project is
completed.
Rigging and Lifting
Surveys
The offshore survey represents the
only real chance of identifying the load
in terms of dimensions, weight, and
centre of gravity. It is critical that our
offshore surveyors illustrate the task in
terms of lifting, rotation, speeds, and
travel directions and evaluate hazards
to determine consequences resulting
from collision, upset, or dropping the
load. Petrus specialists then determine
how to rig the load using best rigging
practices. Our structural engineering
team then ensure that the attachment
points and load can withstand the
forces created by the rigging gear
attachment. The selection of equip-
ment and rigging is therefore based
upon: the type, category of lift, and
minimum capacity of lifting equipment
(hoist, crane, slings, lifting fixture,
amongst other); a full risk assessment
is conducted which highlights any
potential hazards. All in all, Petrus will
mitigate all risks.
Rigginging and Lifting
Operations
One of the challanges Offshore units
face is handling heavy loads, specially
when the area is not accessible by
crane.
Petrus has become one of the main
suppliers for Rigging & Lifting
operations, leading the way in the
energy sector. Our R&L Engineering
Specialists team offer equipment
removal and installation, confined
rigging and lifting for removal and
installation of generators, thruster
motors, mud pumps and any other
heavy load equipment both offshore
and onshore. All operations are well
planned, with all engineering, lift plans,
method statements, electrical and

which establishes the minimum
requirements and conditions, targeting
the implementation of control
measures and preventive systems, in
order to ensure the health and safety of
workers, who directly or indirectly
interact with electrical installations and
electrical services.
The NR 10 Inspection is divided into:
collection, revision and conference of
documents; and an audit onboard is
necessary in order to identify
non-conformities. The Electrical
Installation Report (Prontuário de
Intalações Elétrica, in Portuguese), the
check list with hyperlinks and the
action plan to coordinate the
adequacies are part of the work report
which will be delivered.
PPE and CPE Tests
The insulation tests in PPE and CPE
are part of our scope. We have a
laboratory container, which facilitates
working offshore. In this way, we
include the tests in the following types
of equipment:

both onboard or in our workshop. Each
case is analyzed in order to properly
meet the customer's demand.
25
26. Hazardous Area
Periodic Inspections in Hazardous
Areas including the management of the
non-conformities are often required.
During the inspection onboard a list of
Ex equipment is developed and the
status of each equipment is analyzed. If
the equipment is non-conform the list
of materials to be repaired is
elaborated, as well as the drawing with
the equipment location. Our team is
able to perform repairs in Hazardous
Areas in order to complete the
management of Hazardous Areas as
per IEC 60079 standards.
Bonding and
Grounding
The Petrus team is trained to do the
onboard inspection of all electrical
equipment that operates on a voltage
equal to or higher than 440V, besides
the verification of the bonding
throughout the unit. The earth
resistance measurement and current
leakage are analyzed according to IEC
61892-2 and IEC 60990. Thus the
management of the scope is finalized
with the repair of the
non-conformities found.
Thermography NDT
The thermography is part of the
predictive maintenance and it
comprises the periodical monitoring of
the electrical equipment. With the
temperature graphic generated during
the work, it is possible to avoid
potential future problems such as
failures and downtime of equipment or
machines. The quality of the work is
reflected in the higher lifecycle of the
equipment and this success of
performance is guaranteed by the
experienced thermographic
technicians.
