  1. NEW POLITICAL MAP OF PAKISTAN SUPERVISOR: MAM SHAZIA CHAND GROUP MEMBERS FARZAM (SP22-BAF-024) ALI HUSNAIN (SP22-BAF-048) HASEEB(SP22-BAF-041)
  2. NEW POLITICAL MAP OF PAKISTAN  INTRODUCTION  REASON FOR UNVIELING A NEW MAP  REACTION OF OPPOSITION AND INDIA ON NEW MAP  POLITICAL IMPACT  CONCLUSION
  3. INTRODUCTION  Unveiled by prime minister Imran Khan on Aug. 4, 2020  New political map shows the entire area of jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan as Pakistan’s territory.  The government of Pakistan has exercised it’s executive authority by formally laying claim to the disputed Himalayan territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a new political map.
  4. INTRODUCTION  adding that the move was in line with the country’s decades-old position on Kashmir since it had always maintained that the region was illegally occupied by India.
  5. REASON FOR THE NEW MAP  The decision was made in response to a similar step taken by India which released its own political map in October 2019 depicting Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.  Both India and Pakistan claim it in full but rule only parts of it. Both countries have also fought at least two full-scale wars over the territory.  president of India had signed a decree abolishing Article 370 of the constitution, stripping the significant autonomy Kashmir had enjoyed for seven decades.
  6. REASON FOR THE NEW MAP  India’s annexation of Jammu and Kashmir on Aug 5 2019 aims to change its demography by reducing Muslims to a minority.  This was the reason for Pakistan to come up with a new map to confront these illegally nefarious actions of India.
  7. OPPOSITION AND INDIA’S REACTION ON NEW MAP OF PAKISTAN  Opposition urged government to circulate map among all embassies and international forums to convey official position on disputed territory  Muhammad Zubair, former governor of Sindh province and a senior PML-N leader said. “The government should clarify if it will be using the same map at international forums like the UN, or is it just for domestic consumption,”
  8. OPPOSITION AND INDIA’S REACTION ON NEW MAP OF PAKISTAN  This is an exercise in political absurdity, laying untenable claims to territories in the Indian state of Gujarat and our Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and of Ladakh," the Indian government said.  "These ridiculous assertions have neither legal validity nor international credibility. In fact, this new effort only confirms the reality of Pakistan's obsession with territorial aggrandisement supported by cross-border terrorism,"
  9. POLITICAL IMPACT  Pakistan demanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on J&K to be implemented in their true letter and spirit.  It seeks resolution of this long standing issue which is widely viewed as the unfinished agenda of Partition.  By staking claim over the Indian part of the former Kashmir state at least on paper, Pakistan wishes to draw international attention to the problem.  Pakistan wants to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir who have remained in a state of lockdown for more than a year
  10. CONCLUSION  Pakistan clearly defines Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) as “disputed territory”  rejects Indian abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A that revoked J&K’s semi-autonomous status.  This new map was a step towards evolving hope and reminder throughout the nation through confronting illegal attempts of India.
