3. Ask a neighbor to watch the house while you’re
away.
Leave your vacation address, travel plan, and a

Ask your neighbor to occasionally park his car at
your driveway.
Ask your neighbor to pick up any mail, and move
the garbage can at the curb on normal pickup
days.
Arrange for someone to mow your lawn, to give the
home a lived-in look.
4. Activate your alarm system. Call your security
provider for testing.

home.
Stop deliveries, newspaper, USPS mail (hold-mail
request).
Leave your blinds, shades and curtains in a normal
position. Do not close them unless that is what you
do when you are home.
Consider taking valuables to a bank safe deposit
box.
Engrave your valuables, this simple step will allow
your stolen property to be identified.
5. Plug in timers to turn lights and a radio or
television on and off at appropriate times. This
helps to disguise the fact that you are away.
Turn the bell ringer on your phone down low.
Don’t announce your absence on answering
machine messages.
Have a list of electronics:

people can’t tell if somebody is in the house?
You should never tell your neighbor that you are taking a True False
vacation, and you are going away.
You should ask your neighbor to move your garbage can while True False
you are absent.
If you notice a broken window, it is okay to leave it like that True False
until you come back from your vacation.
Is a good idea to have a spare key hidden outside your house, True False
so in case of emergency you don’t have to call a locksmith late
at night.
