How would you dine with the President or a Potential Employer?
CSU's Career Center hosts 3rd Annual Etiquette Dinner
Angie Dowdell
Campus Life Editor
On Feb. 6 from 5:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m.,
CSU's Center for Career Development
presented 49 CSU students with etiquette
lessons as a part of the 3rd Annual
Etiquette Dinner. This event took place
in the Recreation Center's multipurpose
room. Deidre William's, a professional
etiquette coach who volunteered to coach
the students at the event, was more than
qualified to help eager students acquire
skills that they will be able to use in
professional dining environments. As the
founder of Protocol Academy of Georgia,
LLC, a professional etiquette business,
she was able to supply students with a
cornucopia of knowledge. Mrs. Alysia
Johnson, Career Coordinator of the Career
Center, led the preparation of this event.
For the 49 students who attended this
event, dining in professional settings will
not be a problem. These settings include
job interviews (while dining) and meetings
with business professionals. As a matter
of fact, Johnson, as well as the student
assistants and Career Center Employees,
strategically placed the event one week
before Valentine's Day so that students
could also be prepared for fancy dinners
that they may attend.
Johnson elaborated on the importance
of good dining etiquette, saying, "It's good
to practice the proper dining etiquette so
when you get in the situation you'll be
well prepared. That is why we have hosted
this event for the past three years and are
looking forward to the 2014 etiquette
event."
Joshua Lee, a senior majoring in
computer science, explained how he
benefited from the lessons, saying, "The
event was very informative and I acquired
some useful skills to use when attending
a business dining event, from the proper
posture when sitting at a table, to proper
and respectful ways to eat and [ways to]
hold utensils."
For those who did not get to participate
in the Etiquette Dinner, there are also
upcoming events that the Career Center
will host, including the Spring Job and
Internship Fair on Feb. 27, from 10:30
p.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will target
students who are seeking full-time
employment at companies like Aflac,
TSYS, and Synovous, as well as many
others. Students who attend will be
expected to be in the proper professional
(job interview) attire and to be juniors,
seniors, or alumni of CSU. Proof that
they are a current student or a past student
should be indicated on the resumes they
bring or on their school IDs. For more
information about the Career Center's
upcoming events, students may contact
Johnson at AlysiaJohson@columbusstate.

If you are interested in becoming a part of Enactus, feel free
