This webinar discussed women in leadership roles in K-12 education. It provided statistics showing that while women make up the majority of teachers and central office administrators, they only account for about 25% of superintendents and 52% of principals. The webinar also presented data demonstrating that on average, female principals have more years of teaching experience but fewer years of experience as principals compared to their male counterparts. Additionally, the average annual salary of female principals has historically been about $2,000 lower than for male principals. The webinar was aimed at discussing challenges and opportunities for increasing women's representation in leadership positions.

 11% female principals have doctoral
degrees as their first professional
degrees, about 2% higher than male
peers (Figure 1).
 29% female principals have education
specialist degrees, 5% higher than their
male peers (Figure 1).

12.6 years of teaching experience vs.
10.3 years for male principals
(Figure 2).
 On average, female principals had 5.6
years of experience as a principal in
1993, but in 2016, 6.2 years. For
males, the average years of experience
as a principal decreased from 10.3
years to 7 years (Figure 2).
