[object Object],[object Object],The Evaluation of Annoh Brobbey AS MEDIA COURSEWORK - 2 MINUTE FILM INTRODUCTION
Annoh Brobbey Our final product of the 2-minute film introduction sticks to many of the conventions of our ‘British gangster’ genre including the technique of using a voice over with cockney accent. We chose for this to be added, as it is a signifier of the culture, and social background of the characters, whose lives are very similar in other films of our genre.  The narrative is about corruption, difficult and illegitimate lives. The influence for a lot of the film was from the film ‘lock, stock and two smoking barrels’, by Director Guy Ritchie, which use many of the techniques seen within our film, like other British gangster films. The soundtrack (Composed by John Murphy) is also taken from the film and has been mixed and equalized. Annoh Brobbey The sub-genre of a ‘British gangster’ film comes from the ‘Gangster’ genre, such as ‘The Godfather’. However, they are for a particular nation and have its own conventions. some of these conventions that are different could include the representation of the ‘gangster life’ appears less glamourous. we depicted this in our film by showing them as people who drink for negative reasons such as to relieve stress and many other examples. Our main influenced for our idea was the film ‘Lock Stock and Two smoking barrels’, however it can be also compared with ‘Snatch’ ‘Layer cake’ and many others. Annoh Brobbey The main demographic social group is the working class who are represented in a way that shows them in a negative way as people who are crooked and rebellious. Mise-en-scene within our production uses the . The gender representation in our film shows one female character who is almost hidden and seen to be of great insignificance to our production. This was to show that within this social group, women were not entirely, but almost excluded. The ethnic minority of this film is the white race but this had no obvious significance to the story. This was to show the viewer there is was not any differences when it came to races and that everybody saw each other as relatively equal, as well being a contrast to the original cast. Going to the pub to ‘get pissed’ is a popular activity and stereotype used a lot amongst the working class social group. Annoh Brobbey The type of institutions that will distribute our film would be most likely to be British as it is the country of produce and is who have produced many of the other similar type of films. Companies such as Summit Entertainment, Steve Tisch Company or SKA Films will be likely candidates for this production. Distributors will be likely to be PolyGram Filmed Entertainment or Universal Picture as the genre is also popular worldwide as well as britain. Annoh Brobbey The audience for films are the backbone of the industry as they are who purchase the product and use them and are so importance that films would not be produce on such a mass scale today without an audience. for our film in particular, we think we aim towards the demographic category ranges from manual workers, right down to the unemployed, and psychographics effect the strugglers. This would be due to being able to relate to the similar life traits. This allows us to have the classification at a ‘15’ as we feel that later on for more impact for the film it will include strong violence which wouldnot be suitable for young audiences. Annoh Brobbey Looking back at the original preliminary task, we gained many skills such as using a camera and made several attempts at different shots.one of the difficulties we found using the camera was being unable to have full control on the day. This was due to a slight inexperience to camera knowledge and failing charge the battery. This meant we were restricted by a charger cable. We improved this skill as we remembered to fully charge the battery for the final task. We also became more confident using iMovie and the procedures necessary to upload footage from camera. When the time came to the final production we had developed skills to film and edit much more fluently. Our main focus was on continuity editing which included using techniques such as shot reverse shot, panning shots and 180 Although we found using the camera relatively difficult, we still enjoyed it! Annoh Brobbey I have learnt that i am good with using iMovie with editing however not as good at filming, which isn't bad as it is naturally harder in my opinion. Annoh Brobbey Our final product of the 2-minute film introduction sticks to many of the conventions of our ‘British gangster’ genre including the technique of using a voice over with cockney accent. We chose for this to be added, as it is a signifier of the culture, and social background of the characters, whose lives are very similar in other films of our genre. The narrative is about corruption, difficult and illegitimate lives. The influence for a lot of the film was from the film ‘lock, stock and two smoking barrels’, by Director Guy Ritchie, which use many of the techniques seen within our film, like other British gangster films. The soundtrack (Composed by John Murphy) is also taken from the film and has been mixed and equalized.   • 3. Annoh Brobbey The sub-genre of a ‘British gangster’ film comes from the ‘Gangster’ genre, such as ‘The Godfather’. However, they are for a particular nation and have its own conventions. some of these conventions that are different could include the representation of the ‘gangster life’ appears less glamourous. we depicted this in our film by showing them as people who drink for negative reasons such as to relieve stress and many other examples. Our main influenced for our idea was the film ‘Lock Stock and Two smoking barrels’, however it can be also compared with ‘Snatch’ ‘Layer cake’ and many others.   • 4. Annoh Brobbey The main demographic social group is the working class who are represented in a way that shows them in a negative way as people who are crooked and rebellious. Mise-en-scene within our production uses the . The gender representation in our film shows one female character who is almost hidden and seen to be of great insignificance to our production. This was to show that within this social group, women were not entirely, but almost excluded. The ethnic minority of this film is the white race but this had no obvious significance to the story. This was to show the viewer there is was not any differences when it came to races and that everybody saw each other as relatively equal, as well being a contrast to the original cast. Going to the pub to ‘get pissed’ is a popular activity and stereotype used a lot amongst the working class social group. Annoh Brobbey The type of institutions that will distribute our film would be most likely to be British as it is the country of produce and is who have produced many of the other similar type of films. Companies such as Summit Entertainment, Steve Tisch Company or SKA Films will be likely candidates for this production. Distributors will be likely to be PolyGram Filmed Entertainment or Universal Picture as the genre is also popular worldwide as well as britain. Annoh Brobbey The audience for films are the backbone of the industry as they are who purchase the product and use them and are so importance that films would not be produce on such a mass scale today without an audience. for our film in particular, we think we aim towards the demographic category ranges from manual workers, right down to the unemployed, and psychographics effect the strugglers. This would be due to being able to relate to the similar life traits. This allows us to have the classification at a ‘15’ as we feel that later on for more impact for the film it will include strong violence which wouldnot be suitable for young audiences. Annoh Brobbey Looking back at the original preliminary task, we gained many skills such as using a camera and made several attempts at different shots.one of the difficulties we found using the camera was being unable to have full control on the day. This was due to a slight inexperience to camera knowledge and failing charge the battery. This meant we were restricted by a charger cable. We improved this skill as we remembered to fully charge the battery for the final task. We also became more confident using iMovie and the procedures necessary to upload footage from camera. When the time came to the final production we had developed skills to film and edit much more fluently. Our main focus was on continuity editing which included using techniques such as shot reverse shot, panning shots and 180 Although we found using the camera relatively difficult, we still enjoyed it!   • 9. Annoh Brobbey I have learnt that i am good with using iMovie with editing however not as good at filming, which isn't bad as it is naturally harder in my opinion.
