This is a short presentation on a few Indian Classical Dance Forms. KATHAK DANCE FORM This dance form traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India known as Kathakaris, or story tellers. Kathakali is the traditional dance of Kerala and is one of the oldest forms of theatre in the world. It is a combination of dance and drama where the actors depict characters from Indian mythology, mainly from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Kuchipuddi Dance Form Kuchipudi, one of the art forms of the South had its origin in Andhra Pradesh. Actors sing and dance, and the style is a blend of folk and classical. ODISSI DANCE FORM Odissi is one of the eight classical dance forms of India. It originates from the state of Orissa, in eastern India. It is the oldest surviving dance form of India on the basis of archaeological evidences. Sattriya Dance Form Sattriya or Sattriya Nritya, is one among eight principal classical Indian dance traditions. MANIPURI DANCE FORM Manipuri dance is one of the major Indian classical dance forms. It originates from Manipur; a state in north-eastern India on the border with Burma. The form developed its own specific aesthetics, values, conventions and ethics.
