The following text is for questions 1 to 4 
Once upon a time a prairie mouse busied herself all fall storing away a cache of beans. Every morning 
she was out early with her empty cast-off snake skin, which she filled with ground beans and dragged 
home with her teeth. 
The little mouse had a cousin who was fond of dancing and talk, but who did not like to work. She was 
not careful to get her cache of beans and the season was already well gone before she thought to bestir 
herself. When she came to realize her need, she found she had no packing bag. So she went to her 
hardworking cousin and said: 
"Cousin, I have no beans stored for winter and the season is nearly gone. But I have no snake skin to 
gather the beans in. Will you lend me one?" 
"But why have you no packing bag? Where were you in the moon when the snakes cast off their skins?" 
"I was here." 
"What were you doing?" 
"I was busy talking and dancing." 
"And now you are punished," said the other. "It is always so with lazy, careless people. But I will let 
you have the snake skin. And now go, and by hard work and industry, try to recover your wasted time."

was piping and the Kid was dancing, some hounds hearing the sound ran up and began chasing the Wolf. 
Turning to the Kid, he said, "It is just what I deserve; for I, who am only a butcher, should not have 
turned piper to please you."

The following text is for question 9 to 13 
Once upon a time there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack. They were so poor that they 
didn't have anything except a cow. When the cow had grown too old, his mother sent Jack to the market 
to sell it.

On the way to the market, Jack met a butcher who had some beautiful beans in his hand. The butcher 
told the boy that the beans were of great value and persuaded the silly lad to sell the cow for the beans. 
Jack brought them, happily. When he told his mother about this, his mother became so angry that she 
threw the beans out of the window. 
When Jack woke up in the morning, he felt the sun shining into a pan of his room, but all the rest was 
quite dark and shady. So he jumped to the window. What did he see? The beanstalk grew up quite close 
past Jack’s window. He opened the window and jumped to the beanstalk which ran up just like a big 
ladder He climbed and climbed till at last he reached the sky. While looking around, he saw a very huge 
castle. He was very amazed. 
Then Jack walked along the path leading to the castle. There was a big tail woman on the doorstep. 
Jack greeted her and asked for the giantess mercy to give him breakfast, because he fell very hungry. 
Although the giantess grumbled at first, finally she gave Jack a hunk of bread and cheese and a jug of 
milk. Jack hadn't finished when the whole house began to tremble with the noise of someone's coming. 
"Oh! It's my husband!" cried the giantess. "What on earth shall I do?" 
Hastily the giantess opened a very big cupboard and hid Jack there.

The following text is for question 14 to 16 
Once three fish lived in a pond. One evening, some fishermen passed by the pond and saw the fish. “This 
pond is full of fish”, they told each other excitedly. “we have never fished here before. We must come 
back tomorrow morning with our nets and catch these fish!” So saying, the fishermen left. 
When the eldest of the three fish heard this, he was troubled. He called the other fish together and said, 
“Did you hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pond at once. The fishermen will return 
tomorrow and kill us all!” The second of the three fish agreed. “You are right”, he said. “We must leave 
the pond.” 
But the youngest fish laughed. “You are worrying without reason”, he said. “We have lived in this pond 
all our lives, and no fisherman has ever come here. Why should these men return? I am not going 
anywhere – my luck will keep me safe”. 
The eldest of the fish left the pond that very evening with his entire family. The second fish saw the 
fishermen coming in the distance early next morning and left the pond at once with all his family. The 
third fish refused to leave even then. 
The fishermen arrived and caught all the fish left in the pond. The third fish’s luck did not help him – he 
was caught and killed.

The Following text is for question 16 to 25 
A Miraculous Tree 
Once upon a time, there was a hawker who sold mangoes. Every morning, he sold them along the 
roadside near the bog market. His mangoes were big, juicy, sweet and fragrant. Although he sold them at 
a high price, a lot of people bought from him. Eventually, he grew very haughty and conceited as his sales 
picked up. 
One Sunday morning, an hold dirty beggar wearing scruffy and smelly clothing stood in front of the 
mango stall. He begged the hawker for one mango. The beggar said politely, “Sir, I have not eaten a 
mango since I was ten. Can you please spare me just one fruit?” the proud hawker didn’t even give him a 
wink but continued to shout, “Mangoes! Mangoes!”. As the beggar stood right in front of his stall, other 
people had to move (further) away from the stall to avoid the beggar, and that affected the hawker’s 
business. 
Finally, the hawker got very angry and pushed the beggar away. In doing so, the old beggar tripped and 
slipped on a puddle of dirty water. A housewife who saw the incident felt sorry for the beggar and gave 
him a mango. The beggar was very touched and kept on saying. “Thank you” over and over again. He 
told the crowd that he was going to share the mango with them. He borrowed a knife from the butcher a 
few stall away, cut the mango in to smaller pieces and shared them with the people there. 
As for the big mango seed, the beggar dug a hole in the ground and buried the seed. Then, he asked the 
young butcher to give him some water to water the seed. After that, the beggar uttered some words. To 
everyone’s surprise, a small sprout shot up and rapidly grew into a mature mango tree bearing big, sweet, 
juicy and fragrant mangoes all over the tree. The beggar then plucked the fruit and gave them away to the 
people. The arrogant hawker left his own stall and joined the crowd to watch the beggar performing this 
miracle. 
After all the mangoes were given away to the people, the beggar walked into the crowd and disappeared. 
The proud hawker walked back to his stall and screamed, “ Who stole all my mangoes?”. Finally, he 
realized that all the mangoes growing on that tree actually belonged to him. The beggar, who was actually 
a high priest, had wanted to teach him a lesson. From that day onwards, this once haughty and conceited 
hawker became a humble and charitable person.

The butcher told the boy that the beans were of great value and persuaded the silly lad to sell the cow for the beans. Jack brought them, happily. When he told his mother about this, his mother became so angry that she threw the beans out of the window. When Jack woke up in the morning, he felt the sun shining into a pan of his room, but all the rest was quite dark and shady. So he jumped to the window. What did he see? The beanstalk grew up quite close past Jack’s window. He opened the window and jumped to the beanstalk which ran up just like a big ladder He climbed and climbed till at last he reached the sky. While looking around, he saw a very huge castle. He was very amazed. Then Jack walked along the path leading to the castle. There was a big tail woman on the doorstep. Jack greeted her and asked for the giantess mercy to give him breakfast, because he fell very hungry. Although the giantess grumbled at first, finally she gave Jack a hunk of bread and cheese and a jug of milk. Jack hadn't finished when the whole house began to tremble with the noise of someone's coming. "Oh! It's my husband!" cried the giantess. "What on earth shall I do?" He called the other fish together and said, “Did you hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pond at once. The fishermen will return tomorrow and kill us all!” The second of the three fish agreed. “You are right”, he said. “We must leave the pond.” But the youngest fish laughed. “You are worrying without reason”, he said. “We have lived in this pond all our lives, and no fisherman has ever come here. Why should these men return? I am not going anywhere – my luck will keep me safe”. The eldest of the fish left the pond that very evening with his entire family. The second fish saw the fishermen coming in the distance early next morning and left the pond at once with all his family. The third fish refused to leave even then. The fishermen arrived and caught all the fish left in the pond. The third fish’s luck did not help him – he was caught and killed. 14. When were they going to catch the fish? a. Yesterday b. Every morning, he sold them along the roadside near the bog market. His mangoes were big, juicy, sweet and fragrant. Although he sold them at a high price, a lot of people bought from him. Eventually, he grew very haughty and conceited as his sales picked up. One Sunday morning, an hold dirty beggar wearing scruffy and smelly clothing stood in front of the mango stall. He begged the hawker for one mango. The beggar said politely, “Sir, I have not eaten a mango since I was ten. Can you please spare me just one fruit?” the proud hawker didn’t even give him a wink but continued to shout, “Mangoes! Mangoes!”. As the beggar stood right in front of his stall, other people had to move (further) away from the stall to avoid the beggar, and that affected the hawker’s business. Finally, the hawker got very angry and pushed the beggar away. In doing so, the old beggar tripped and slipped on a puddle of dirty water. A housewife who saw the incident felt sorry for the beggar and gave him a mango. The beggar was very touched and kept on saying. “Thank you” over and over again. He told the crowd that he was going to share the mango with them. He borrowed a knife from the butcher a few stall away, cut the mango in to smaller pieces and shared them with the people there. As for the big mango seed, the beggar dug a hole in the ground and buried the seed. Then, he asked the young butcher to give him some water to water the seed. After that, the beggar uttered some words. To everyone’s surprise, a small sprout shot up and rapidly grew into a mature mango tree bearing big, sweet, juicy and fragrant mangoes all over the tree. The beggar then plucked the fruit and gave them away to the people. The arrogant hawker left his own stall and joined the crowd to watch the beggar performing this miracle. After all the mangoes were given away to the people, the beggar walked into the crowd and disappeared. The proud hawker walked back to his stall and screamed, “ Who stole all my mangoes?”. Finally, he realized that all the mangoes growing on that tree actually belonged to him. The beggar, who was actually a high priest, had wanted to teach him a lesson. From that day onwards, this once haughty and conceited hawker became a humble and charitable person. 17. Why did people still buy mangoes from the hawker despite his high price? a.
