 The head of the femur articulates with
the acetabulum in the pelvic bone forming the hip
joint, while the distal part of the femur articulates with
the tibia and kneecap forming the knee joint.

 The head contains a small

the tendons of several thigh muscles

10. Distal Femur
 The posterior border of the shaft of the femur forms a
broad roughened crest called as linea aspera.
 At the distal end of the femur, the linea aspera forms
the floor of the popliteal fossa, and its margins form
the medial and lateral supracondylar lines which
terminate on the superior aspect of the condyles
(medial condyle is larger + more inferior)

11.  The condyles are separated posteriorly by an inter-
condylar fossa. On each condyle is a shallow oblique
grove that separates the surface that articulates with
the tibia from the surface that articulates with the
patella.
