William "Chris" Schoenster, a Senior, with the Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture, won the First place award in the Indian Society of Landscape Architects design competition in the category of "Resilience". His entry, “The Shore Thing”, presented a critical inquiry into exploring the universal replicability of Living Shorelines in India, which are an increasingly popular and effective coastal restoration strategy that combats erosion from waves and storm events, floods, improves water quality, and provides marine habitat. The Jury commended: appropriate site selection supported by good documentation of all layers leading to a contextually suitable design & policies and an absolute connection between existing and proposed. Professor Archana Sharma was the Lead advisor on this project; this completes her hat-trick for leading teams to first place awards at national level design competition with a recommendation on greenways navigation and, regional Maryland State Sustainable Growth Challenge with the planning of green networks for urban sustainability, social equity and economic revitalization.
