For many organisation though, social media is still an unknown territory, and as it accelerates in both personal and
commercial use, a myriad of new legal issues and other risks start to arise. Legal issues associated with improper
content use, infringement, defamation and privacy, as well as risk of developing a negative brand reputation, deters

About the workshop:
Risks and legal issues in social media hinder business opportunities. Thus, organisations not only have to be aware of these risks but also have to have a plan in place to
manage them.
In this workshop we will work together to explore the following:
• What is social media risk?
• What are the legal aspects of social media?
• How can legal risk associated with social media affect business?
• How can you create a framework to manage social media risk and its legal aspects?
About the workshop leaders:
Anthony Mason has extensive experience as a social media risk management professional, having joined SR7 as the Head of Monitoring in 2010.
In that time he has developed an industry-leading understanding of the complex issues facing social media users and professionals alike and the
best practice approaches in addressing these challenges.
Gustaf Sorman-Nilsson is the Head of Social Media Auditing at Australia’s leading social media intelligence company, SR7. He manages a team
of specialist social media analysts who provide social media auditing and risk management to ASX listed companies and some of Australia’s most
respected brands. With his team, he has delivered world best social media strategies for clients across all industries.
Rebekah Giles is an experienced and respected litigator, recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales who recently honoured her with
an appointment to its Litigation and Legal Practice Committee. She deals with all types of reputational risk and commonly acts in negligence
actions against professionals, disciplinary/regulatory matters for professionals, defamation proceedings, sporting disputes and a broad range of
commercial disputes. She also specialises in dealing with breaches of confidentiality and privacy.

About the workshop:
There are myriad of risks and legal implications to take into consideration when using social media in the workplace.
This workshop will cover a wide variety of legal issues that a business might have to deal with on a really bad day from defamation, employment code of conduct
breaches to breaches of advertising codes and misleading and deceptive conduct.
We will work together to understand and overcome these potential risks in your organisation.
About the workshop leader:
Jenny is a senior legal professional with over 20 years’ experience in a wide variety of roles and management environments ranging from
large multinational and public sector to a smaller private sector companies. She has held General Counsel roles at Reuters, Airservices
Australia, Lonely Planet and Ninemsn, She is passionate about leading and developing high performing teams. Her core areas of technical
strength are Digital Media Law, Intellectual Property, Technology, Regulatory Risk Management and Corporate Governance She has a keen
interest in professional legal education and since 2008 has lectured on organisational strategy, team management and development as part
of the professional development programme of the NSW College of Law. She is currently a lecturer in the School of Law at Canberra
University.
