SUBSTATION   A Station is a subsidiary station of an electricity generation , transmission & disrtibution system where voltage is transmitted to high to low or the reverse using transformer. A substation generally have switching , protection & control equipment & one or more transformers. Fig.- Single line diagram
  3. 3. LIGHTING ARRESTER    Lighting Arrester is a protective device which provides protection against high voltage from lighting. A Lighting Arrester has two terminal viz a high voltage terminal & a ground terminal. It is used only for overhead line.
  4. 4. BUS BAR   1. 2.  A Bus Bar is a conducting bar that caries heavy currents to supply several electric circuits. Bus Bar is made from ‘Cu’ & ‘Ar’. TYPE OF BUS BAR Main Bus Bar Auxiliary Bus Bar One Bus Bar is Main Bus Bar & another is Auxikiary Bus Bar.
  5. 5. TRANSFORMER  1. 2. 3. 4. A transformer is a static device that transfers Elecrical energy from one Electrical circuit to another Electrical circuit by means of a common magnetic circuit. TRANSFORMER USED IN GSS POWER TRNSFORMER CURRENT TRANSFORMER POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER STATION TRANSFORMER
  6. 6. POWER TRANSFORMER To step down the voltage & transfer power from one A.C. voltage to another A.C. voltage at same frequency.
  7. 7. CURRENT TRANSFORMER   Current transformer is an instrument transformer used to protection & metering of high values of current. C.T. is used to step down current for measurement , control & protection.
  8. 8. POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER   Potential transformer are instrument transformer. P.T. is used to step down voltage for measurement, control & protection.
  9. 9. ISOLATOR   It isolates the devices from live line. When there is a maintenance. It operates when there is no laod. It is also used to change bus bar line from main to reverse or vice-versa.
  10. 10. CIRCUIT BREAKER  • • A circuit breaker is an automatically or manually operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from demage caused by overhead or short circuit. Type of Circuit Breaker which is used in 132 KV GSS Barmer SF6 Circuit Breaker Vacuum Circuit Breaker
  11. 11. PROTECTIVE RELAYS   Protective relay is a sensing device & it is designed to detect operating conditions on an electric circuit. It trips the circuit breaker when fault is detected.
  12. 12. INSULATORS In order to avoid current leakage to the Earth, through the supporting structure provide to the conductor of overhead transmission lines, insulators are used.
  13. 13. CAPACITOR BANK Capacitor banks are used to improve the quality of the electrical supply and the efficient operation of the power system. Studies show that a flat voltage profile on the system can significantly reduce line losses.
  14. 14. BATTERY ROOM & CONTROL ROOM In a GSS separate dc supply is maintained for signaling remote position control, alarm circuit etc.
