Spring Semester 2013
Pediatric Capstone – Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, IL
Worked with a preceptor in providing care for multiple patients on pediatric unit.
Administered oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, suppositories, and intravenous medications.
Performed admission assessments, started and discontinued IVs, removed urinary catheters,
performed nasal and oral suctioning, provided patient and parent education and emotional support,
and assisted with discharges.
Obstetric Capstone– Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, IL
Worked under a nursing preceptor providing care for various patients on an obstetric unit, including
neonatal patients, laboring mothers and post-partum patients.
Obtained intravenous access and administered fluids and medications though IV lines.
Hooked patients up to fetal monitoring systems and contraction monitors for laboring patients and
non-stress tests.
Observed caesarian section deliveries and assisted in charting patient information during the surgical
procedure.
Charted patient progress, assisted with discharge teaching and escorted patients to their cars once
discharged home.
Global– Second Baptist Church, Kankakee, IL
Collaborated with the church staff in developing an educational workshop emphasizing on stress
management in the African American population.
Developed a professional PowerPoint presentation, interactive tool, and brochure.
Educated members of the church about the negative effects of stress and management techniques.

Shadowed the Director of Emergency Services and Patient Care Manager/ Community liaison during
a normal working day.
Developed and presented an ethical dilemma presentation with members of the graduating nursing

Fall Semester 2013
Medical-Surgical – Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, IL and Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, IL
Provided direct patient care and performed assessments.
Educated patients on the importance of using an incentive spirometer, assisted RN in hanging blood
and continuously monitoring for patient reaction, performed ostomy care, administered
intramuscular injections, worked with a patient who had a feeding tube, hung piggyback
medications, gave a bolus tube feeding, assisted in care of stroke patients, administered medications
through a feeding tube, and worked with various oxygen administrating devices.
Observed a cardiac catheterization, echocardiogram and x-ray procedures.
Home Healthcare– Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, IL
Worked with a home health nurse obtaining assessments, performing catheterization, administering
medications and preforming basic patient care.
Oncology– Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, IL
Obtained vital signs and physical assessments on cancer patients, assisted in hanging chemotherapy
medications, observed patients for signs of reactions, and accessed a central port for a blood draw.

Orthopedics/Neurology– Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, IL
Worked with post-surgical patients, providing basic care and education.
Educated patients about PCA pumps and usage, assisted a diabetic patient with insulin
administration and food choices, and discontinued IV.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit– Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, IL
Assisted in hooking patients up to monitoring, obtaining vital signs, measuring intake and output,
providing reassurance to patients recovering from anesthesia, and observed a nerve block procedure.
Pediatrics – Provena St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Joliet, IL
Performed assessments and direct patient care for children with various illnesses such as:
pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, mononucleosis, gastroenteritis, RSV, seizure disorders, and
cholicystitis.
Worked with a patient with a chest tube and Jackson Pratt drainage system, provided support and
medication education to a patient admitted for a drug overdose, administered IV and oral
medications and discontinued IVs.
Followed a Registered Nurse in the pediatric emergency room and assisted in obtaining vitals and
assessments, transferring patients, discharge paperwork and teaching, medication administration and
a spinal tap procedure with conscious sedation.

Worked with a school nurse obtaining vital signs, providing basic first aid, measuring blood glucose
levels, creating health care plans for students and administering medications.

Administered IV push medications, performed IV site care, worked with patients in isolation,
performed glucoscans, and changed patient dressings.

labor/delivery areas.
Monitored fetal and maternal vital signs, assisted mothers in breastfeeding, and provided discharge
teaching.
Assisted in an epidural procedure, circumcision, and two live births.

Worked with pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients with an array of mental health and mood
disorders.
