How to motivate effective teams and encourage bonding

  1. 1. How To Motivate Effective Teams and Encourage Bonding A well-functioning, motivated and happy team is central to the success of a business and quality of work done. Employees that work well together can communicate and contribute to a collective goal. To meet company goals, you need to think beyond yourself and keep employees and customers happy by finding out more about what makes them tick and helping them achieve it. Your Role as Manager Many managers and leaders find team building a complicated subject with the creation of the ideal team seeming to occur by happenstance. However, creating, maintaining and motivating an efficient and motivated team requires the right combination of factors. Trust your team to get things done instead of micromanaging them. They, in turn, should trust your leadership and see you as not just a superior but a part of the team. Be available to them and make time when needed to listen when they talk and air problems ideas or concerns. Even if you have a lot of work, do not isolate yourself from the team or make them feel inferior to your work. Understanding individual personalities takes time and effort but helps you understand how best to make use of them. Encourage their growth and support them when they come across any obstacles to not only build up skill sets but also build trust and communication. Benefits of TeamBuilding Team building might seem like a fun way to destress but its benefits should not be underestimated. The immediate effects of good team bonding are higher motivation levels, better problem-solving and productivity. Open communication should exist between team members even if they are not in the same office as a lack of communication could make it difficult for the team to improve. Positive interaction within the team creates stronger bonding. Implemented correctly, office morale and leadership skills can be developed through team bonding activities. Use these activities as a way to identify strength or weaknesses.and analyse the role an employee can play. TeamBonding Ideas There are many ways leaders or managers can create an environment conducive to communication, openness and productivity. Team building exercises need not be regular or dedicated events. It can be an exercise that fosters communication and challenges employees while building trust and could include other skills and exercises too. Here are some approaches they can take.  Feedback: Getting honest feedback from your employees can define the success of a team. Team members feel valued when they can open up and speak their mind. Sharing opinions can also help find problems and improve skills.  Celebrate together: Celebrate events, accomplishments and milestones together as a team. By getting together in an informal setting such as a restaurant or similar outing, you can encourage a tighter bond by getting to know their families and background  Fun activities: Take a break from work with a fun activity that encourages teamwork and brings out the team spirit. This could be an organised activity, a simple board game or a sport that the team participates in as a group.  Volunteer: It is very rewarding for employees to help each other and participate in something that is bigger than themselves. Taking on a charity project or greater cause

Be Mindful The way a team communicates during an informal meeting is crucial to its success. Non-work discussions allow team members to look out for each other and think of the team as more than work colleagues. Interestingly, it is possible for a remote team to outperform a local team as long as a proper system is put in place that focuses on task-related categories and relationships. Some other things to be mindful of is the emotional state of employees. Knowing when they are upset or embarrassed can go a long way towards making a team work together. Establish a company culture that protects team members and encourages them to be transparent, share ideas and promotes positive values. Watch out for office cliques forming when team members who share similarities form closer bonds. Each team member should feel committed to the same cause as everyone having the same voice. Conclusion The success of a company is largely dependant on its employees working together towards a common goal. Develop successful teams that know each other well and understand their wants, interests and needs to help them build strong bonds. Performing team building activities together and encourage them to communicate openly. Through it all, convey your availability to them and motivate and encourage them towards a mutually beneficial.
