Time Management
• I was given 2 full weeks to complete my production. Because of the fact that we were not
under any obligations to be in college, it essentially gave me free reign. I decided to stick to a
similar timetable by going into college 4 days a week, so 8 times in total to complete this task.
Before this schedule I was given three weeks to pre plan my work and put together a structure
on what I was going to produce. In these three weeks I managed to plan out on what I was
going to do on each day of production. My initial idea was to create all 5 different bits of
production. Basically in simpler terms one a day with the exception of completing the slogan
and a logo mock up together. By doing this it would then give me a full week to improve my
work to a better standard, as well as giving me an opportunity to put together a pitch to
present to my tutor. In summary i would use my first day of production to undertake my
longest task which is my leaflet. When this base was complete, i set about making my other
pieces. These were my poster, flyer, leaflet and slogan. I would use my other three days to do
this. When my 5 final pieces were roughly complete, i used my second week of production to
improve these pieces, as well as using that time to create a pitch presentation which i would
present to my tutor at some point in that week.
• In all honesty this project was easy to manage as I had the relaxation of knowing that my client
was my own dad, so he would not be as strict as other clients would be. This allowed me to
feel like I was in full control of what I was doing, therefore giving me the best opportunity of
the best grade. In the end it worked out that I had a few spare days on my side, so I used to
this to my advantage by submitting improvements for other pieces of work in this client
project.
Managing The Project
In all honesty managing this project was fairly easy. Like I have already mentioned
because my client is family, it allowed me to be more comfortable in what I was doing.
At the beginning of my pre production my client set me 5 tasks to complete, some
critical with others being optional. He did this as an informal brief, which is basically a
way of communicating that does not take much effort as we had a natural conversation
face to face. I managed my project by making sure the tasks that he specifically asked
me to complete were set in stone in the early days of production. Essentially getting the
hardest and biggest tasks out of the way first. This then allowed me to complete the rest
of my production with a more relaxed feel to it and knowing that i had time on my side.
The idea was to produce my leaflet in the first day of production, so therefore if i needed
to improve it i had the biggest amount of time to do this. In the following two days i
decided to produce my poster and flyer with a full day being required for both. By doing
this it allowed me to have one day to get myself back into it again before completing my
final bits of production on the friday of the first week.
I set about producing my work by evaluating it as I went on. By doing this it gave me the
opportunity to know what I needed to improve in the second week of production,
therefore giving me the best possibility of achieving the best grade for my project. In the
second week of production i went about improving my work as well as recording and
presenting a pitch to go alongside this pro forma.
Communication Management
• In terms of the communication side of things, I found it very easy to get
in touch with my client. I was lucky enough to have in my armor the
ability to talk to him through text, whether this be on Facebook or
message, I also had his phone number to be able to ring him when
necessary and go round to his house to be able to talk to him face to face
if required. Because of the fact that I was able to contact him so
frequently made my production flow smoother. In the weekend just
before my production began, I managed to find some spare time to go
round and visit my client so he could give the final details of what he
wanted completing. This talk gave me a much clearer understanding of
what I needed to produce and how I was going to set about doing this.
• As the production got underway I sent my client visual updates on what I
was making through Facebook. My client then rang me on what he
thought of it so far and he would do this regularly in the first week. As
my wok became nearer to completion I visited his house to get a final
brief of him going into my second week of production. By doing this it
gave a full update on where I was with the project.
Brief Requirements
• In terms of what brief my client gave me it was the informal brief. An informal brief is
not documented and is usually of the verbal kind. It is where the client and company
which they have employed simply discuss the requirements for the product they will
be making and ultimately agree upon the project. My client simply talked through to
me in a relaxed manner what he wanted me to produce for him. He underlined the
fact that he was in desperate need of a leaflet as he did not have one currently. He
descried this as ‘critical’ which made me think that this is something I should be
completing first to get it out of the way. The other 4 tasks that he gave me were
considered not as important but were things that he wanted completing to help
revamp his business.
• The pros of this brief were knowing exactly what I needed to complete in the two
week schedule. My client was convincing in his delivery which made me feel
confident that he would not sway back and forth with his ideas. Knowing my client
well made me sure that this would not be an issue anyway. This also meant that my
client had a strong image in his mind of what he wanted his final pieces to look like
which certainly helps. I tried my best to produce my work with how my client set it
out to be, and I was very confident that I did this to the best of my ability.
Constraints (Legal, Regulatory and Financial)
• In terms of the copyright side of things there was one particular thing that came into play in this aspect. This
was my images of cows. As it turned out in these two weeks I did not have enough time to go out and
collect images of cows myself. Therefore I found myself in a difficult situation. I knew from past experiences
that using an image off google could potentially be a dangerous game to play. Therefore I went about
finding copyright free sites to avoid such difficulties. The sites I found included shutterstock and pixabay, I
ended up using the former for my images as they had the best range of images as well as providing
exceptional quality.
• When it came to to financial responsibilities, it turned out that I did not have any. Everything that I needed
to complete my final pieces was already at my disposal. Even though the main tool that I needed was vacant
at home (Photoshop) college provide the full version of it which you are able to access for free. Other
software that I needed which were PowerPoint and Word were also given to me at college.
• The final aspect which are potential regulatory issues, it turned out that there was not any of these either.
General Development (Idea)
To summarise this further i started working on this project after the easter
holidays. I was then given three weeks to pre plan my production and complete
an idea development pro forma. At the very start of the planning i produced a
series of mind maps. At this point i did not worry about practicality, suitability or
potential, it was all about just producing rough thoughts and ideas. Overall i was
happy about how these came out and it certainly helped me for the next part of
my development.
When this was complete, i set about writing up two very different ideas that i
would potentially look to take forward into my production. My first idea was to
produce a new flyer, leaflet and poster for my client, as well as coming up with a
new logo and slogan. The challenge though was to produce these pieces in a
throwback to the 1950’s where milk delivery was at its most popular. I then
produced an evaluation of my idea too clear things up further. I was extremely
satisfied with what i produced here and it allowed me in the future to look back
on this and give me further options on what i could produce. After this i set out
a similar structure for my second idea with the work being formal but basic this
time. In terms of the evaluation of the idea i asked myself 5 questions. These
being what do you like about the idea?, does it match what the client wants?,
are you capable of delivering this?, can you do this on time? and do you have
the resources available to do this?. I went about answering these questions in
critical detail to give me confidence for what i was going to be going with in the
coming weeks.
General Development (Idea)
When these initial thoughts were complete i set about developing my two ideas by producing
mood boards and going into greater detail about each final piece of my production. After this
was complete i then asked myself a further 5 questions about the assessment of my final
ideas. I also talked about the legal and ethical issues that could potentially come with it.
Personally i was happy with this part of my development as by answering these questions it
improved my knowledge on different aspects of the project, as well as giving me the
opportunity to establish my final ideas and confirm what i was going to be working with. The
legal and ethical issues part also re affirmed my awareness of the potential struggles that i
could face in production, and this can only be a good thing as it would make me more alert.
The next part was getting into my research. This is where i started to go into greater detail
about my competition and market, as well as exploring what wider market my client was
part of. Here i went into detail about potential job roles, customer base and general sales,
which allowed me to get a better idea with what project i was working with. I was satisfied
with how all this turned out as it gave me a better understanding about the project as a
whole. The next part of my research was finding out about my audience and potential
customers. By researching into this market would help me a get a better understanding of
what i could possibly produce and what would work and what would not.
I then looked at my primary and secondary research which are vital cogs in any research
activity. I used examples for both and looked at similar ideas as well as what specific idea i
would be rolling with for my production.
Final Outcome
• Overall I fully believe that my project has gone very well. Throughout my
production, everything ran smoothly without any issues at all. In some ways
I was fortunate in that I did not have many products to make, therefore
giving me more than enough time to complete what I needed. In terms of
time management, I think that I controlled this expertly. At the very start of
my production I set out a schedule where I would complete a different task
every day in the first week, with the second being used for improvements
and tidying up on my pitch presentation. When it came to the
communication side of things, this is also something that I believe went very
well. Like I have already mentioned because my client was my dad, it made
it very easy to talk to him and get a full understanding of what he wanted
me to do.
• My final products are products that I am more than satisfied with. Even
though I understand that more could've gone into the design work, I still
believe that for the project I was working with they are more than
acceptable.

Evaluation

  • 2. Time Management • I was given 2 full weeks to complete my production. Because of the fact that we were not under any obligations to be in college, it essentially gave me free reign. I decided to stick to a similar timetable by going into college 4 days a week, so 8 times in total to complete this task. Before this schedule I was given three weeks to pre plan my work and put together a structure on what I was going to produce. In these three weeks I managed to plan out on what I was going to do on each day of production. My initial idea was to create all 5 different bits of production. Basically in simpler terms one a day with the exception of completing the slogan and a logo mock up together. By doing this it would then give me a full week to improve my work to a better standard, as well as giving me an opportunity to put together a pitch to present to my tutor. In summary i would use my first day of production to undertake my longest task which is my leaflet. When this base was complete, i set about making my other pieces. These were my poster, flyer, leaflet and slogan. I would use my other three days to do this. When my 5 final pieces were roughly complete, i used my second week of production to improve these pieces, as well as using that time to create a pitch presentation which i would present to my tutor at some point in that week. • In all honesty this project was easy to manage as I had the relaxation of knowing that my client was my own dad, so he would not be as strict as other clients would be. This allowed me to feel like I was in full control of what I was doing, therefore giving me the best opportunity of the best grade. In the end it worked out that I had a few spare days on my side, so I used to this to my advantage by submitting improvements for other pieces of work in this client project.
  • 3. Managing The Project In all honesty managing this project was fairly easy. Like I have already mentioned because my client is family, it allowed me to be more comfortable in what I was doing. At the beginning of my pre production my client set me 5 tasks to complete, some critical with others being optional. He did this as an informal brief, which is basically a way of communicating that does not take much effort as we had a natural conversation face to face. I managed my project by making sure the tasks that he specifically asked me to complete were set in stone in the early days of production. Essentially getting the hardest and biggest tasks out of the way first. This then allowed me to complete the rest of my production with a more relaxed feel to it and knowing that i had time on my side. The idea was to produce my leaflet in the first day of production, so therefore if i needed to improve it i had the biggest amount of time to do this. In the following two days i decided to produce my poster and flyer with a full day being required for both. By doing this it allowed me to have one day to get myself back into it again before completing my final bits of production on the friday of the first week. I set about producing my work by evaluating it as I went on. By doing this it gave me the opportunity to know what I needed to improve in the second week of production, therefore giving me the best possibility of achieving the best grade for my project. In the second week of production i went about improving my work as well as recording and presenting a pitch to go alongside this pro forma.
  • 4. Communication Management • In terms of the communication side of things, I found it very easy to get in touch with my client. I was lucky enough to have in my armor the ability to talk to him through text, whether this be on Facebook or message, I also had his phone number to be able to ring him when necessary and go round to his house to be able to talk to him face to face if required. Because of the fact that I was able to contact him so frequently made my production flow smoother. In the weekend just before my production began, I managed to find some spare time to go round and visit my client so he could give the final details of what he wanted completing. This talk gave me a much clearer understanding of what I needed to produce and how I was going to set about doing this. • As the production got underway I sent my client visual updates on what I was making through Facebook. My client then rang me on what he thought of it so far and he would do this regularly in the first week. As my wok became nearer to completion I visited his house to get a final brief of him going into my second week of production. By doing this it gave a full update on where I was with the project.
  • 5. Brief Requirements • In terms of what brief my client gave me it was the informal brief. An informal brief is not documented and is usually of the verbal kind. It is where the client and company which they have employed simply discuss the requirements for the product they will be making and ultimately agree upon the project. My client simply talked through to me in a relaxed manner what he wanted me to produce for him. He underlined the fact that he was in desperate need of a leaflet as he did not have one currently. He descried this as ‘critical’ which made me think that this is something I should be completing first to get it out of the way. The other 4 tasks that he gave me were considered not as important but were things that he wanted completing to help revamp his business. • The pros of this brief were knowing exactly what I needed to complete in the two week schedule. My client was convincing in his delivery which made me feel confident that he would not sway back and forth with his ideas. Knowing my client well made me sure that this would not be an issue anyway. This also meant that my client had a strong image in his mind of what he wanted his final pieces to look like which certainly helps. I tried my best to produce my work with how my client set it out to be, and I was very confident that I did this to the best of my ability.
  • 6. Constraints (Legal, Regulatory and Financial) • In terms of the copyright side of things there was one particular thing that came into play in this aspect. This was my images of cows. As it turned out in these two weeks I did not have enough time to go out and collect images of cows myself. Therefore I found myself in a difficult situation. I knew from past experiences that using an image off google could potentially be a dangerous game to play. Therefore I went about finding copyright free sites to avoid such difficulties. The sites I found included shutterstock and pixabay, I ended up using the former for my images as they had the best range of images as well as providing exceptional quality. • When it came to to financial responsibilities, it turned out that I did not have any. Everything that I needed to complete my final pieces was already at my disposal. Even though the main tool that I needed was vacant at home (Photoshop) college provide the full version of it which you are able to access for free. Other software that I needed which were PowerPoint and Word were also given to me at college. • The final aspect which are potential regulatory issues, it turned out that there was not any of these either.
  • 7. General Development (Idea) To summarise this further i started working on this project after the easter holidays. I was then given three weeks to pre plan my production and complete an idea development pro forma. At the very start of the planning i produced a series of mind maps. At this point i did not worry about practicality, suitability or potential, it was all about just producing rough thoughts and ideas. Overall i was happy about how these came out and it certainly helped me for the next part of my development. When this was complete, i set about writing up two very different ideas that i would potentially look to take forward into my production. My first idea was to produce a new flyer, leaflet and poster for my client, as well as coming up with a new logo and slogan. The challenge though was to produce these pieces in a throwback to the 1950’s where milk delivery was at its most popular. I then produced an evaluation of my idea too clear things up further. I was extremely satisfied with what i produced here and it allowed me in the future to look back on this and give me further options on what i could produce. After this i set out a similar structure for my second idea with the work being formal but basic this time. In terms of the evaluation of the idea i asked myself 5 questions. These being what do you like about the idea?, does it match what the client wants?, are you capable of delivering this?, can you do this on time? and do you have the resources available to do this?. I went about answering these questions in critical detail to give me confidence for what i was going to be going with in the coming weeks.
  • 8. General Development (Idea) When these initial thoughts were complete i set about developing my two ideas by producing mood boards and going into greater detail about each final piece of my production. After this was complete i then asked myself a further 5 questions about the assessment of my final ideas. I also talked about the legal and ethical issues that could potentially come with it. Personally i was happy with this part of my development as by answering these questions it improved my knowledge on different aspects of the project, as well as giving me the opportunity to establish my final ideas and confirm what i was going to be working with. The legal and ethical issues part also re affirmed my awareness of the potential struggles that i could face in production, and this can only be a good thing as it would make me more alert. The next part was getting into my research. This is where i started to go into greater detail about my competition and market, as well as exploring what wider market my client was part of. Here i went into detail about potential job roles, customer base and general sales, which allowed me to get a better idea with what project i was working with. I was satisfied with how all this turned out as it gave me a better understanding about the project as a whole. The next part of my research was finding out about my audience and potential customers. By researching into this market would help me a get a better understanding of what i could possibly produce and what would work and what would not. I then looked at my primary and secondary research which are vital cogs in any research activity. I used examples for both and looked at similar ideas as well as what specific idea i would be rolling with for my production.
  • 9. Final Outcome • Overall I fully believe that my project has gone very well. Throughout my production, everything ran smoothly without any issues at all. In some ways I was fortunate in that I did not have many products to make, therefore giving me more than enough time to complete what I needed. In terms of time management, I think that I controlled this expertly. At the very start of my production I set out a schedule where I would complete a different task every day in the first week, with the second being used for improvements and tidying up on my pitch presentation. When it came to the communication side of things, this is also something that I believe went very well. Like I have already mentioned because my client was my dad, it made it very easy to talk to him and get a full understanding of what he wanted me to do. • My final products are products that I am more than satisfied with. Even though I understand that more could've gone into the design work, I still believe that for the project I was working with they are more than acceptable.
