This document discusses the activity lifecycle in Android applications. 5. • The Android system controls the lifecycle of
your application. At any time the Android
system may stop or destroy your application,
e.g. because of an incoming call.
• The Android system defines a lifecycle
for Activities via predefined methods.

6. • Each application runs in its own process.
• Each activity of an app is run in the apps
process
• Processes are started and stopped as needed
to run an apps components.
• Processes may be killed to reclaim needed
resources.
• Killed apps may be restored to their last state
when requested by the user

7. • Most management of the life cycle is done
automatically by the system via the activity stack.
• The activity class has the following method
callbacks to help you manage the app:

9. • onCreate() ::This method is called when first
time activity is created.
• onStart()::This method is called just before
your activity becomes visible on the screen.
• onResume()::This method is called after
onStart() method and if your activity is the
foreground activity on the screen.

10. • onPause()::This method is called when your activity is
just about to call another activity so that the current
activity has to be paused and the new activity has to be
resumed. Here the previous activity is not stopped but
it loss the foreground visibility means it goes as
background activity.
• onStop()::This method is called when your activity is no
longer visible on the screen.
• onDestroy()::This method is called when your current
activity has the last chance to do any processing before
it is destroyed.
