With the onset of the new Financial Year, the Performance Management System (PMS) clock
starts ticking and the best way for us to begin the year would be to set SMART (Specific,
Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) Goals! Let's be hopeful of a good year ahead. The
last couple of years were unimaginably challenging owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, things look brighter now! So, let’s plan well, believe in our capabilities to achieve the
maximum and gear up for delivering the best. Let's focus on understanding our organisational
goals and align our personal performance targets for the successful achievement of those
goals. Let no challenge deter us from achieving our goals. Michael Jordan rightly said - "The
game has its ups and downs, but you can never lose focus of your individual goals
and you can't let yourself be beat because of lack of effort." The KPTs for the year
2022-23 must be recorded online. All are requested to stringently follow the timelines shared
by the Corporate HR Department.
It was events galore in the month of March 2022. We celebrated the National Safety Week,
International Women's Day and the Official Language Department organised events for
promoting the use of Hindi at Balmer Lawrie. The 51st National Safety Day was successfully
observed on 4th March and the National Safety Week (NSW) celebrations continued till 10th
March 2022. The theme for NSW this year was ‘सुरक्षा संस्कृति के तिकास हेिु युिाओं को प्रोत्सातहि करें / Nurture Young
Minds Develop Safety Culture.’ A host of programs centered on the theme were organized by
the HSE Department. Read the ‘HSE Update’ column in this issue to know more.
Summers have set in! Do take care and follow the necessary tips to beat the heat and remain
healthy. We celebrated the festival of colours, Holi in March, the Regional New Year and Easter
in April and now gearing up to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr in the beginning of May. Let's pray for the
well-being of all and best wishes from BLOOM for all of you!

Unmesa - The Ascent, Balmer Lawrie's flagship Mentor Development program was inaugurated virtually
on 16th March 2022. Unmesa has been designed in collaboration with Ashis Sen Consulting and
Coaching (ASCC) and would be conducted by Dr. Ashis Sen. During the inaugural function, Mr. Abhijit
Ghosh, SVP [HR] delivered the welcome address. Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD addressed the
participants and gave an overview of the BL Mentorship Program, highlighting the goals. Mr. Adhip
Nath Palchaudhuri, Director [Service Businesses] talked about Mentoring, being an essential part of
Executive growth and Dr. Ashis Sen gave a sneak peek into ‘Unmesa – The Ascent’ program. There was
an Open House session for SBU / Function Heads on how they expect Mentoring to change and impact
Engagement Process in Balmer Lawrie. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. SD Barman, AVP [HR] –
CHRD. The virtual workshops commenced from 25th March 2022. The program would focus on
development of Mentorship Skills through a mix of classroom (virtual workshops) learning and real-life
practices.
Balmer Lawrie Travel handled a large group of 1400 PAX for a reputed Private customer that included
back-to-back six charter flights and individual air ticketing, visa and insurance for travel to Abu Dhabi
in March 2022. This was a high value project and one of the biggest that the Travel vertical has
handled in the business history of Balmer Lawrie.
Balmer Lawrie was represented by Mr. Gaurav Bhatura, Vice president and Head Travel in the cricket
match organised between Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG), Government of India and
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB). PSPB emerged the winners of the match. Participation in
the tournament was a great branding opportunity for our Company.
The two-day online training program - ‘Employee Orientation Swayam’ for Unionized employees of
Eastern Region was organised for Batch II on 9th & 10th March, 2022 and for Batch III on 16th & 17th
March, 2022 at G&L - Kolkata for employees of G&L and CFS, Kolkata. The topics covered included
change management, problem solving ability, power of critical thinking, listening skills, importance of
teamwork & role of every individual in a team, taking ownership, communication basics, customer
relationship etc. The program was highly informative and engaging and was well received by the
participants.

Batch – III
A Knowledge Sharing Session on the topic “THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE
(PREVENTION, PROHIBITION AND REDRESSAL) ACT, 2013” was conducted virtually on 23rd March
2022 for the team members of HR & CA. Speakers for the session were Ms. Mohar Mukhopadhyay,
Head [Corporate Communications], Mr. Kaustav Sen, Sr. Manager [Legal] and Ms. Mrigashikha Mitra
Banerjee, Manager [HR] - CHRD.
A free medical health check-up camp was organised at Greases & Lubricants, Kolkata by Narayana
Memorial Hospital on Orthopaedics and Eye check up on 2nd March 2022.
International Women’s Day celebrated
International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated with much fervour across regions pan India on 8th
March 2022. In a virtual Thought Leadership session, Dr. Alka Mittal, C&MD, ONGC and Mr. Adika
Ratna Sekhar, C&MD, Balmer Lawrie addressed all the employees of Balmer Lawrie on the topic
‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. Mr. Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Director [Service
Businesses] delivered the welcome address for this session. This was followed by an internal panel
discussion on the theme “Gender Inclusive Workplace for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. The panellists
included Mr. R M Uthayaraja, Executive Director [Industrial Packaging and Chemicals], Mr. Udayan
Ghosh, COO [Logistics Services], Mr. Sriram Kumar Chavali, CIO [Information Technology] and Mr.
Partho Chatterjee, VP [HR], Western Region. Ms. Ruhi Singh, Chief Manager [Vigilance] was the
Moderator of the event. Various events around women’s day were also conducted in the regions.

Women employees of Balmer Lawrie’s Eastern Region during the celebrations
As part of the IWD celebrations, training programs were organised for women employees of the
Eastern Region (ER) on the topic – ‘Empower to Lead’ on 9th March and on the topic – ‘Public Speaking
skills’ on 11th March in the Balmer Lawrie Training Centre at the Corporate Office in Kolkata. A webinar
on “Holistic Wellness for all Women Personnel” was conducted on 10th March 2022 from for female
employees of ER. The webinar was conducted in association with Ms. Mouparna Ghosh, Dietician –
Narayan Memorial Hospital. The webinar was attended by around 30 female employees.
Regional HR - Western Region organised a Health Camp in association with Model Hospital Nanavati at
the Ballard Estate Office in Mumbai on International Women’s Day for all employees.
In the Northern Region various engagement programs were organised for the women employees on 8th
March 2022.
A free health check-up camp was organised at Manali, Chennai for women working in the factory and
surroundings in association with HelpAge India. Tests conducted included Pap Smear, X-Ray
Mammogram, BP, BMI, Hb, Diabetic Screening & Oral Screening.
A special one-day Hindi workshop was organised on the theme ‘आत्मनिर्भर र्ाषा से आत्मनिर्भर र्ारत’ at Diu
by Regional HR - Western Region. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD in
the presence of Senior Officials. The objective of the workshop was to highlight the role of Businesses /
Functions as partners in the progress of Official Language Implementation.
With a view of promoting implementation of Official Language in the Company and also as per the
decision taken in the last quarterly OLIC (Hindi) meeting, a Hindi Workshop was organised on 28th
March 2022 in the Balmer Lawrie Training Centre at the Corporate Office in Kolkata.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE [OL] UPDATE
To commemorate World Water Day, the RO water facility sponsored by Balmer Lawrie for the children
of Bratachai Gram Junior School, Joka was inaugurated on 23rd March 2022.
CSR UPDATE
As part of CSR initiatives, 400 sanitisation kits were distributed to the underprivileged women living in
Paharpur slum area in Kolkata on 31st March 2022.
The 51st National Safety Week (NSW) was observed from 4th to 10th March 2022 in all units
/establishments across locations. The week commenced on 4th March, observed as National Safety Day,
with the administering of the safety pledge and reading out of C&MD’s message. In line with the theme
“सुरक्षा संस्कृ नत क
े विकास हेतु युिाओं को प्रोत्साहहत करें / Nurture Young Minds Develop Safety Culture”, various
programs were organized over the week. The programs included extempore, online quiz, mock drills,
skit, online safety slogan and online essay writing competitions.

Welcome you to the Balmer Lawrie family and wish you all the best!
Mr. Saurav Sanjay Joshi joined Industrial Packaging, Asaoti as Asst.
Manager [SCM] on 9th March 2022.
Saurav belongs to the 'Grapes capital of India', Nashik. He is elated to be a part
of Balmer Lawrie's Industrial Packaging Division as an Asst. Manager [SCM].
After completing his formal education till Electrical Engineering in Nashik, he
gained experience in SCM during his stint in an Automation Company at
Nashik. Wandering and exploring new places, trekking and mountaineering
happen to be his first mantra of cherishing holidays. Swimming comes the
second! He strongly believes in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda, which
lightens up the way to reach the destiny and the goal. His family comprises his
younger sister, father and mother. He is very proud to be called a Balmer
Lawrien hereafter.
Mr. Sankar P joined Chemicals, Chennai as Asst. Manager [Stores &
Dispatch] on 16th March 2022.
After graduating in Civil Engineering, Sankar worked as a Civil Engineer for
around six years. He gained significant knowledge in SAP during this period.
With keen interest in Materials Management, he pursued his studies in this
area and subsequently took up assignments to evolve in this field. He is also
interested in mentoring and training young talent who'd like to gather
knowledge in the field of construction. He likes playing cricket, kabaddi and
listening to music in his free time. His mother, P Rani, is a homemaker and a
caring mother. His elder sister, R Bhakiyalakshmi, is also a homemaker and his
motivator. His family has a pet cow in their home since his childhood. The work
done by Mr. Ratan Tata has inspired him a lot.
Mr. Ranish Ranjan joined Corporate HR Department, Kolkata as Asst.
Manager [HR] on 28th March 2022.
Ranish was born in Berhampur and brought up in Talcher, Odisha. He has a
younger sister and his father in his family. His mother left for her heavenly
abode in the month of September 2021. Humility, trust and simplicity are the
major values that he has learnt in my life from his parents. He has a great zeal
to learn new things. He is always open to feedback, which helps him to
improve himself. After completing his schooling from Odisha, he went on to
study Engineering from BIT Mesra and then completed his MBA-HRM from
Xavier School of Human Resource Management (erstwhile XIM, Bhubaneswar).
He has worked with JK Paper Ltd. and Adani Ports in the past. His interests
include sports (football in particular), music, food, astronomy, financial
literacy, science fiction, comedy and thriller movies and TV series and memes.
Elon Musk is his role model.

With the onset of the new Financial Year, the Performance Management System (PMS) clock starts ticking and the best way for us to begin the year would be to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) Goals! Let's be hopeful of a good year ahead. The last couple of years were unimaginably challenging owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, things look brighter now! So, let’s plan well, believe in our capabilities to achieve the maximum and gear up for delivering the best. Let's focus on understanding our organisational goals and align our personal performance targets for the successful achievement of those goals. Let no challenge deter us from achieving our goals. Michael Jordan rightly said - "The game has its ups and downs, but you can never lose focus of your individual goals and you can't let yourself be beat because of lack of effort." The KPTs for the year 2022-23 must be recorded online. All are requested to stringently follow the timelines shared by the Corporate HR Department. It was events galore in the month of March 2022. We celebrated the National Safety Week, International Women's Day and the Official Language Department organised events for promoting the use of Hindi at Balmer Lawrie. The 51st National Safety Day was successfully observed on 4th March and the National Safety Week (NSW) celebrations continued till 10th March 2022. The theme for NSW this year was ‘सुरक्षा संस्कृति के तिकास हेिु युिाओं को प्रोत्सातहि करें / Nurture Young Minds Develop Safety Culture.’ A host of programs centered on the theme were organized by the HSE Department. Read the ‘HSE Update’ column in this issue to know more. Summers have set in! Do take care and follow the necessary tips to beat the heat and remain healthy. We celebrated the festival of colours, Holi in March, the Regional New Year and Easter in April and now gearing up to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr in the beginning of May. Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD was conferred with the ‘Topmost Innovation Leaders (Global)’ award presented at the 14th Edition of World Innovation Congress held on 24th March 2022 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Mr. Partho Chatterjee, VP [HR] – RHR – WR collected the award on behalf of C&MD. Hearty congratulations to C&MD and the Manufacturing SBUs! BL UPDATES Balmer Lawrie was awarded as one of the ‘Topmost Manufacturing Companies’ as part of World Leadership Congress Awards in a function held at Taj Lands End, Mumbai on 22nd March 2022. The award was received by the team members of SBU: IP and Mr. Partho Chatterjee, VP [HR] – RHR – WR on behalf of the Company. SBU: Logistics Services (LS) received a certificate of appreciation from Asahi India Glass Ltd. (AIS), India’s leading integrated glass and windows solutions company and a dominant player both in the automotive and the building & construction segments. Relentless follow-ups, dedication, commitment and prompt crisis management of the team helped in building confidence and strong relationship with the customer. The team’s endeavour in providing fastest connectivity in times of crisis for critical shipments further strengthened the customer’s trust on Balmer Lawrie resulting in SBU: LS becoming a preferred Freight Forwarder for them. Kudos to SBU: LS!
  • 3. Unmesa - The Ascent, Balmer Lawrie's flagship Mentor Development program was inaugurated virtually on 16th March 2022. Unmesa has been designed in collaboration with Ashis Sen Consulting and Coaching (ASCC) and would be conducted by Dr. Ashis Sen. During the inaugural function, Mr. Abhijit Ghosh, SVP [HR] delivered the welcome address. Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD addressed the participants and gave an overview of the BL Mentorship Program, highlighting the goals. Mr. Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Director [Service Businesses] talked about Mentoring, being an essential part of Executive growth and Dr. Ashis Sen gave a sneak peek into ‘Unmesa – The Ascent’ program. There was an Open House session for SBU / Function Heads on how they expect Mentoring to change and impact Engagement Process in Balmer Lawrie. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. SD Barman, AVP [HR] – CHRD. The virtual workshops commenced from 25th March 2022. The program would focus on development of Mentorship Skills through a mix of classroom (virtual workshops) learning and real-life practices. Balmer Lawrie Travel handled a large group of 1400 PAX for a reputed Private customer that included back-to-back six charter flights and individual air ticketing, visa and insurance for travel to Abu Dhabi in March 2022. This was a high value project and one of the biggest that the Travel vertical has handled in the business history of Balmer Lawrie. Balmer Lawrie was represented by Mr. Gaurav Bhatura, Vice president and Head Travel in the cricket match organised between Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG), Government of India and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB). PSPB emerged the winners of the match. Participation in the tournament was a great branding opportunity for our Company.

The two-day online training program - ‘Employee Orientation Swayam’ for Unionized employees of Eastern Region was organised for Batch II on 9th & 10th March, 2022 and for Batch III on 16th & 17th March, 2022 at G&L - Kolkata for employees of G&L and CFS, Kolkata. The topics covered included change management, problem solving ability, power of critical thinking, listening skills, importance of teamwork & role of every individual in a team, taking ownership, communication basics, customer relationship etc. The program was highly informative and engaging and was well received by the participants. Industrial Packaging - Silvassa played host to Dr. A Muthamma, IAS and Mr. S Krishna Chaitanya, the Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services (DANICS) in the month of March 2022. A Knowledge Sharing Session on the topic “THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE (PREVENTION, PROHIBITION AND REDRESSAL) ACT, 2013” was conducted virtually on 23rd March 2022 for the team members of HR & CA. Speakers for the session were Ms. Mohar Mukhopadhyay, Head [Corporate Communications], Mr. Kaustav Sen, Sr. Manager [Legal] and Ms. Mrigashikha Mitra Banerjee, Manager [HR] - CHRD. A free medical health check-up camp was organised at Greases & Lubricants, Kolkata by Narayana Memorial Hospital on Orthopaedics and Eye check up on 2nd March 2022. International Women’s Day celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated with much fervour across regions pan India on 8th March 2022. In a virtual Thought Leadership session, Dr. Alka Mittal, C&MD, ONGC and Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD, Balmer Lawrie addressed all the employees of Balmer Lawrie on the topic ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’. Mr. Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Director [Service Businesses] delivered the welcome address for this session. This was followed by an internal panel discussion on the theme “Gender Inclusive Workplace for a Sustainable Tomorrow”. The panellists included Mr. R M Uthayaraja, Executive Director [Industrial Packaging and Chemicals], Mr. Udayan Ghosh, COO [Logistics Services], Mr. Sriram Kumar Chavali, CIO [Information Technology] and Mr. Partho Chatterjee, VP [HR], Western Region. Ms. Ruhi Singh, Chief Manager [Vigilance] was the Moderator of the event. Various events around women’s day were also conducted in the regions.

Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD, Balmer Lawrie and Dr. Alka Mittal, C&MD, ONGC addressing the employees of Balmer Lawrie Women employees of Balmer Lawrie’s Eastern Region during the celebrations As part of the IWD celebrations, training programs were organised for women employees of the Eastern Region (ER) on the topic – ‘Empower to Lead’ on 9th March and on the topic – ‘Public Speaking skills’ on 11th March in the Balmer Lawrie Training Centre at the Corporate Office in Kolkata. A webinar on “Holistic Wellness for all Women Personnel” was conducted on 10th March 2022 from for female employees of ER. The webinar was conducted in association with Ms. Mouparna Ghosh, Dietician – Narayan Memorial Hospital. The webinar was attended by around 30 female employees.
  • 7. Regional HR - Western Region organised a Health Camp in association with Model Hospital Nanavati at the Ballard Estate Office in Mumbai on International Women’s Day for all employees. In the Northern Region various engagement programs were organised for the women employees on 8th March 2022. A free health check-up camp was organised at Manali, Chennai for women working in the factory and surroundings in association with HelpAge India. Tests conducted included Pap Smear, X-Ray Mammogram, BP, BMI, Hb, Diabetic Screening & Oral Screening.
  • 8. A special one-day Hindi workshop was organised on the theme ‘आत्मनिर्भर र्ाषा से आत्मनिर्भर र्ारत’ at Diu by Regional HR - Western Region. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD in the presence of Senior Officials. The objective of the workshop was to highlight the role of Businesses / Functions as partners in the progress of Official Language Implementation. With a view of promoting implementation of Official Language in the Company and also as per the decision taken in the last quarterly OLIC (Hindi) meeting, a Hindi Workshop was organised on 28th March 2022 in the Balmer Lawrie Training Centre at the Corporate Office in Kolkata.   • 9. As part of CSR initiatives, 400 sanitisation kits were distributed to the underprivileged women living in Paharpur slum area in Kolkata on 31st March 2022. The 51st National Safety Week (NSW) was observed from 4th to 10th March 2022 in all units /establishments across locations. The week commenced on 4th March, observed as National Safety Day, with the administering of the safety pledge and reading out of C&MD’s message. In line with the theme “सुरक्षा संस्कृ नत क े विकास हेतु युिाओं को प्रोत्साहहत करें / Nurture Young Minds Develop Safety Culture”, various programs were organized over the week. The programs included extempore, online quiz, mock drills, skit, online safety slogan and online essay writing competitions. Mr. Saurav Sanjay Joshi joined Industrial Packaging, Asaoti as Asst. Manager [SCM] on 9th March 2022. Saurav belongs to the 'Grapes capital of India', Nashik. He is elated to be a part of Balmer Lawrie's Industrial Packaging Division as an Asst. Manager [SCM]. After completing his formal education till Electrical Engineering in Nashik, he gained experience in SCM during his stint in an Automation Company at Nashik. Wandering and exploring new places, trekking and mountaineering happen to be his first mantra of cherishing holidays. Swimming comes the second! He strongly believes in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda, which lightens up the way to reach the destiny and the goal. His family comprises his younger sister, father and mother. He is very proud to be called a Balmer Lawrien hereafter. Mr. Sankar P joined Chemicals, Chennai as Asst. Manager [Stores & Dispatch] on 16th March 2022. After graduating in Civil Engineering, Sankar worked as a Civil Engineer for around six years. He gained significant knowledge in SAP during this period. With keen interest in Materials Management, he pursued his studies in this area and subsequently took up assignments to evolve in this field. He is also interested in mentoring and training young talent who'd like to gather knowledge in the field of construction. He likes playing cricket, kabaddi and listening to music in his free time. His mother, P Rani, is a homemaker and a caring mother. His elder sister, R Bhakiyalakshmi, is also a homemaker and his motivator. His family has a pet cow in their home since his childhood. The work done by Mr. Ratan Tata has inspired him a lot. Mr. Ranish Ranjan joined Corporate HR Department, Kolkata as Asst. Manager [HR] on 28th March 2022. Ranish was born in Berhampur and brought up in Talcher, Odisha. He has a younger sister and his father in his family. His mother left for her heavenly abode in the month of September 2021. Humility, trust and simplicity are the major values that he has learnt in my life from his parents. He has a great zeal to learn new things. He is always open to feedback, which helps him to improve himself. After completing his schooling from Odisha, he went on to study Engineering from BIT Mesra and then completed his MBA-HRM from Xavier School of Human Resource Management (erstwhile XIM, Bhubaneswar). He has worked with JK Paper Ltd. and Adani Ports in the past. His interests include sports (football in particular), music, food, astronomy, financial literacy, science fiction, comedy and thriller movies and TV series and memes. Elon Musk is his role model.
