Welcome all.
We are representing the diamond group.
And here is our presentation.
Introduction... [CLICK]
HERE'S OUR TEAM
We have...
Eve
Kacper
Oisin
Brayden
Ben
As we all know...
[CLICK]
Knowledge is power.
But knowledge is not an isolated concept.
[CLICK]
It is made up of…
[CLICK]
the creation of knowledge.
[CLICK]
And the sharing of knowledge.
[CLICK]
For us starting off our knowledge journey…
[CLICK]
It can be defined by the physical spaces in which it takes place.
For us that’s UCC
[CLICK]
[CLICK]
Here we are…creating and sharing knowledge!
[CLICK]
Here in UCC these spaces are diverse in scale and scope.
From the green sunlit pasture of the president’s garden, pictured here
[CLICK]
To the calm orderliness of the New Bar
[CLICK]
These space are where we…
[CLICK]
Learn from experts
[CLICK]
Tease out our ideas with peers
[CLICK]
And frantically piece together presentations
[CLICK]
These spaces are diverse…
[CLICK]
From the old and archiac…
[CLICK]
To the new and fresh…
[CLICK]
And from the elegant and beautiful…
[CLICK]
To the dull and displeasing….
[CLICK]
Our project therefore is on…
The diversity of the physical spaces of knowledge creation and sharing.
To tell you more I’ll hand you over to our lead researcher and architecture buff Oisin!!
The first building we are focusing on is the Kane Building.
Built in 1964
Cost £900,000
Students from UCC helped design the building
Unfortunately…
They forgot to add toilets into the design
…then added to basement.
Building is innovative
Someone would say it’s a prison
In contrast - elegant and beautiful - our second building is the Western Gateway
Site bought 1990s
2 part construction – 1st 3 floors complete summer 2009
Cost €400 million
Lecture theatres and teaching, research and IT labs
Unfortunately In Winter 2009…
River Lee floods, damaging Cork city…
And interrupts construction of WGB, until June 2010
In 2016, last 2 floors constructed.
Although equipment very modern, the computers have clearly not kept up with the times.
To tell you more about our approach here’s Brayden
Thanks Oisín!
Our plan is to bring these spaces into the digital space!
[CLICK]
Using photogrammetry we are piecing together every inch of these buildings
[CLICK]
Why photogrammetry…
It eases a lot of the pain of traditional 3D scanning
With just a few photographs an object can be captured and digitalised
[CLICK]
without having to reach every crevice and corner
So far we’ve learned a lot!
[CLICK]
From the teamwork process…
[CLICK]
To planning and preparation….
[CLICK]
To the importance of charging electronic devices…
Thank Brayden...
Moving forward we will be perfecting our 3D models…
[CLICK]
Adding to the database of photos used to generate the model and employing 3d modeling software to tease out any inconsistencies
[CLICK]
FINALLY and most importantly...
[CLICK]
We are bringing the digital…
[CLICK]
Back into the physical… through 3d printing
I'd like to thank you
....for listening
and welcome any questions you might have
on our presentation & our project moving forward
