Classification of nervous system
Cranial nerve
There are 12 pair of cranial
nerve.
1-olfactory
2-optic
3-oculomotor
4- trochlear
5-trigeminal
6- abducent
7-facial
8-vestibulocochlear
9-glossopharyngeal
10-vagus
11-accessory
12-hypoglossal
Olfactory
• Concerned with the sense of smell
• It aries from receptors present in the olfactory
epithelium of the nasal cavity ,pass upwards
through cribiform plate of ethamoid bone and
then pass to olfactory bulb ,these nerve then
proceed backwards as a olfactory track , to the
area for preception of smell in the temporal lobe
of the cerebrum.
• CN1 is the shortest cranial nerve within the
human head.
Optic nerves
• Concerned with the sense of vision
• It originates from the gangliaon cell in retina
they then pass through the optic foramina of
the sphenoidal bone into the crania cavity and
join at optic chiasma
• The nerves proceed backwards as a optic
tracts to the lateral geniculates bodies of
thalamus
Oculomotor
• Supplies the inferior, medial and superior recti
inferior oblique musles of eye .
• also supplies the levator palpebrae muscle
which arise the upper eyelid .
Trigeminal nerve .
The trigeminal nerve is the fifth
cranial nerve located within the brain, and is
primarily responsible for transmitting
sensations from the face to the brain. It is
composed of three branches: the ophthalmic,
maxillary, and mandibular. ... It is also
the nerve that controls the muscles used for
chewing.
Abducent
• These nerves aise from nuclie lying under the
4rth venticle floor .
• It supplies the lateral rectus muscle which
couse abduction of the eye ball .
Facial nerve
• Both sensory and motor.
• It is mainly a motor nerve which supplies the
muscles of facial expression.
• The sensory fiber convey impluses from the
taste buds in the anterior two- third area of
tongue to the preception area in the cerebral
cortex .
Vestibolu cochlea nerve
These nerves are composed of two divisions, the
vestibular nerves and cochlear nerve .
It carries the sensation from the vestibule and
cochlea of the internal ear .
glossopharyngeal
• Sensory in nature
• It supplies much of toungue and phyrynx
• it carries parasympathetic fiber to otic
ganglion which is turn supplies paratid salivary
gland
Vagus
• Large nerve
• Partially sensory and partially motor
• Supply larynx , phyranx, palate
• Also supply major organ of thorax and
abdomen
Hypoglossal
• It is a major nerve to the muscles of tongue
• And supply muscular surrounding the hyoid
bone and contribute to swallowing and
speech.
