2. Introduction:
United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) an American
Courier service provider that successfully
coped up with changing business environment
to profitability and sustainability in long run.
Usually the main business of a conventional
courier service (international) is delivering
parcels and packages in different corners of the
world.
4. Criticism:
• Actually this strategic change shifted
themselves from courier company to logistic
support company.
• In courier industry only 5% profit can be
generated from the logistics management.
• first year it has been found that their total
revenue from logistic services was just 6% of
their total revenue but experts believed that
this revenue 20%.
5. • The main problem the UPS had faced that
moving from package and mail delivery to
logistic support business was not that much
wise decision as it was not capable to
generate more revenue than the delivering
services does.
• Secondly UPS had not perfectly come up with
the most potential decision to enter into the
main shipping carrier business.
6. Recommendation
• Strategic management is the continuous
planning, monitoring, analysis and assessment of
all that is necessary for an organization to meet
its goals and objectives.
• UPS had decided to move from the conventional
delivery to logistic support business but found
that this business can only generate 6% of their
total revenue.
• So they started the overseas carrier business that
finally helped them to achieve their final goal.
