15. My concentration is my sister with different sources of light on her face. I
chose this as my concentration because I love the different shapes on the face
and to me light emphasizes them more than anything else.
I started with the idea of light on the faces, as in C#1 and 2, using graphite-depicting
values on different family member’s faces.
I switched to concentrating on just my sister because of her strong facial features and
how the light fell on the angular shapes, altering her face. I used different lights not
only to bring out the shapes in the face but also the different tones in the face. I think
that light also adds a mood to a painting. For example the painting of her holding a
lighted orb in #C4 gives her face an eerie mood and the painting with the dots of light
in #C5 gives off a mysterious feeling.
I started out with a realistic process and as I moved through my concentration I
started abstracting my pieces, putting more emphasis on the shapes. C#12 I reached
my goal of investigation as the face shapes more than features.
