Asbestos
Removal
Exactly what it says on the
tin, and we mean removal,
not reduction. We’re fully
licensed by the Health &
Safety Executive and our
approach is completely
bespoke to you and your
site. It’s by no means a
one-size-fits-all approach
– we treat each and every
project with the gravitas
that it deserves.
Demolition
We can offer our advice
and expertise on complete
decommissioning strategies
and projects. Our Group
Chairman, John Bagnall,
who previously sat as the
youngest ever chairman of
the National Federation
of Demolition Contractors,
leads all of our demolition
investigations. We are also
able to assess and
remediate states of
potential contamination
uncovered after demolition
has taken place.
Asbestos
Surveying
Our surveyors are qualified
to every regulatory
standard that they should
be, and they only ever work
within HSG264 guidance.
We offer management
surveys to help you develop
an effective asbestos
management strategy, as
well as refurbishment and
demolition surveys to make
sure you are well aware of
asbestos installations
before refurbishment or
demolition work takes
place. We can happily take
the reins when it comes
to treating anything we
find too.

Reinstatement
Removal of asbestos
needn’t lead to
complicated, multi-trade
refurbishment projects.
Winsulate offer a full suite
of reinstatement
services, specifically
tailored to match the
scope of our removal
activities - taking the
hassle out of liaising with
plumbers, electricians,
joiners and painters.
Waste
Management
We are fully licensed
hazardous waste carriers
ourselves, but we also
operate a separate
hazardous waste transfer
facility - one that is
permitted by the
Environment Agency, and
located in central
Manchester. Whether it’s
the collection, disposal,
or collection and disposal
of hazardous waste you
require, waste
management doesn’t have
to be the rigmarole that it
is assumed to be.
Training
Working with you, we can
develop bespoke training
packages that cater
exclusively to your business,
and the needs of your
workforce. Our training
programmes form the basis
for effective compliance
awareness across your
entire estate or stock.

Ad hoc asbestos
refurbishment surveys to

refurbishment to stadiums,
training venues and other MUFC
sites.
CHALLENGES
Working across the large,
varied property portfolio of one
of the world’s largest sporting
brands.
We have been providing ongoing ad hoc asbestos
surveys and abatement works to Manchester
United FC’s various locations since 2010. In this
time, we have carried our surveying and
management works on some of the most iconic
locations associated with the club – including
the Trafford Training Centre and Old
Trafford itself.
The services we have provided over the years
have included management surveys to various
buildings and venues, targeted refurbishment
surveys paving the way for future renovations,
as well as bulk sample testing and analysis at
specific sites.
In addition, we have provided several separate
programmes of planned and controlled
abatement projects across the MUFC
property portfolio.
We are proud to support such an iconic sporting
institution, and believe that our professionalism,
efficiency and care with regards to confidentiality
have been key in maintaining our solid
relationship with the club – long may it continue!

WHAT WE DID
Site-wide, programme-led Type
2 and Type 3 asbestos surveys
(now known as
management, demolition or re-
furbishment surveys) and
annual inspections with
updates to the asbestos
register.
CHALLENGES
Working in a live nuclear
environment, protected by some
of the highest levels of security
we have ever seen on a project.
We are currently into the third extension of what
was originally only a three-year contract to
provide URENCO UK with our asbestos surveying
and consulting services. Having worked on-site
at Capenhurst for the last seven years, we have
developed a unique understanding of our clients’
operating standards and controls –
something which has been a key factor in our
continued retention of the contract.
Our work with URENCO UK is some of the most
challenging, yet rewarding work we do. It requires
us to make sure that all of the necessary health
and safety paperwork is accurate, exhaustive
and returned promptly to make sure that our
project isn’t delayed during URENCO’s health and
safety approval process. In a single day on-site,
our surveying team can be faced with numerous
constraints and obstacles preventing work from
progressing as expected. As such, we have
adjusted and optimised our internal processes to
make sure that no compromises are ever made in
our efforts to adhere to a client’s regulations
and requirements.
During our years of work with URENCO and their
subcontractors, we have completed every single
project without a single health and safety
incident or complication. To this day, we are still
URENCO UK’s preferred asbestos consultant and
contractor, and we hope that we can continue to
work with and support their invaluable work in
the years to come.

WHAT WE DID
Decontamination of
asbestos insulation debris in
subfloor ducts.
CHALLENGES
Work to be completed during
the refurbishment of the
main campus, with the
college remaining fully
operational throughout.
We have been Trafford College’s preferred asbestos removal
contractor since 2006, undertaking several small and medium
asbestos removal projects across two campuses. During this
time, we demonstrated enough professionalism and
capability to the college’s senior estates and health & safety
teams, as well as their estates director, to warrant us being
offered the opportunity to carry out a larger project at the
end of the 2011-2012 school year.
The project took place in conjunction with a £9 million campus
refurbishment (carried out by ISG plc). Our asbestos subfloor
decontamination project was an essential prerequisite of the
restructuring and underpinning work that needed to take
place ahead of the main refurbishment project. Asbestos pipe
insulation was known to have been used in the college in the
past, and though a lot of it was stripped in the late 1990s,
after we had carried out various survey and sampling
exercises, we determined that contamination was still
present. Previously, this was largely being managed by the
college’s estates team with our assistance – leading to a
series of localised decontamination exercises. We were tasked
with finishing a project that they were managing
incrementally up to that point.
Asbestos treatment work within a confined space always
provides a great level of risk, and with the previous factors
in mind, our work with Trafford College was one of the most
complex abatement projects we have undertaken
to date.
We were asked to start work immediately in June 2012
following the college closing for their summer holiday.
Luckily, our project management team was already familiar
with Trafford College representatives, the on-site conditions
and the anticipated programme of activity and phasing,
meaning they could quickly prepare and submit all of the
necessary health and safety documents – liaising with the
college operational teams throughout.
During the project we were consistently praised for the
minimum amount of impact our presence had both in general
to the college, and to everyone connected to the project.
The client reported to us that not one student had mentioned
asbestos during the project, such was our on-site visibility, or
lack thereof. We ran 24-hour shifts during the first phase, with
two supervisors operating split shifts with an hour crossover
between both shifts to ensure an efficient handover.
MARSHALL
CDP
LOCATION
100 King Street,
Manchester
VALUE
£236,000
WHAT WE DID
Comprehensive asbestos
refurbishment surveying and
removal on each of the building’s
10 floors.
CHALLENGES
Working to preserve the integrity
of a Grade II listed building, all
without compromising the
effectiveness of the main
asbestos surveying and removal
tasks at hand.
We were entrusted with taking the reins on planned
asbestos refurbishment surveying work within the iconic 100
King Street building in the centre of Manchester. We were
then responsible for the controlled removal of any asbestos
installations that we discovered.
This might sound like a relatively straightforward brief for a
company like us, but working on landmarks of such historic
importance isn’t a task that we take lightly. 100 King Street
(previously the Midland Bank) is Edwin Lutyens’
best-remembered and most recognisable architectural marvel
in Manchester. As such, the site has had Grade II* listed status
for over 40 years. In addition, the project was larger than
originally anticipated in terms of scope, requiring the removal
of asbestos pipe insulation from internal risers and wall
cavities, of asbestos insulation board from a number of areas
of the building as well as of non-licensed products on each of
the building’s 10 floors.
The greatest challenge we faced during the project was the
aforementioned removal of asbestos pipe insulation.
As already discussed, these were located within vertical risers
– what we didn’t mention was that they were behind
protected art deco marble panelling, which complicated
matters somewhat! Working with the Heritage Society, we
engaged in the controlled removal of the panels, securing
them in a full enclosure environment, protecting them from
the elements. The Heritage Society also supervised and
supported us in the reinstatement of the panels on each floor,
once the asbestos removal and decontamination work within
the riser cavities had been completed.
Our work and professionalism was well above the
expectations of both Marshall CDP and the Heritage Society,
and we proud to have contributing to such an ambitious
refurbishment project, particularly when the results have
come out looking as stunning as they do today.
