Bags Skillsbeingused:  Agility (FMS)  Balance(FMS)  Coordination (FMS)  Twist and turn (FMS)  Jumping (FMS)  Running (FMS/FTS) Purpose:  The purposeof theBagsis to help warm-up athletes footworkand coordination Drill Instructions:  Have Athletesstartat the beginning of thedrill (starting pointof circuit)  Each athletewill go through Bagsthreetimes:  1st Time: OneFoot o Athlete will simply putone footinside the bag  2nd Time: Side Shuffle o Will side shuffleside to side in between bags o Makesure feetare not clicking together during shuffle  3rd Time: Two Feet o Athlete will simply buttwo feetinside the bag beforemoving on to nextbag Coaching Tips:  Makeathlete is completing right amountof stepsinto each bag  When shuffling makesureathlete doesnotlet feet “click” together  Informtheathlete to try and keep their head up;looking forward  Burstout of the bagsinto the sprint,when bag drill is complete

Drill Instructions:  Have Athletesrun through each of the differentladder drills on the diagrams:  1st Time: 1-in-the- Hole Forward o Makesure athleteshavehigh knees  Refer to diagram(1in theHole)  2nd Time: 90 Degree Turns o makesure athletesare really using their hips when turning while keeping straightforward asmuch as possible  Refer to Diagram(90 degree turns)  3rd Time: Ickey Shuffle o Slowdown the shuffleand focuson doing steps properly if athlete is having trouble o This is drill is moreof a complex footworkpattern  Refer to Diagram(Ickey Shuffle) Coaching Tips:  Makesure athletesare doing the stepsin and outsideof the ladderproperly,if notmake theathlete slow his speed down so they can understand thestepsbetter  If athlete is getting comfortablewith the footworkthen speed up thefootwork  Makesure theathletes head is up during thedrill

Drill Instructions:  Makesure each athlete hastwo flags  This drill is rather simple,the athlete will try and run through each of thesecones withoutgetting a flag ripped fromthe defender  Aftereach set of conesthe athlete passthrough,onemoredefenderwillbe added to makeit tougher o Maximum3 setsof cones  Once athletehasgoneby thedefenders,thedefenderscannotturn around and rip off the athletes flags Coaching Tips:  Additionally, after each of the athleteshavegonethrough thedrill once,switch up thedrill by adding a coach to throwing a footballto theathlete beforestarting the drill o Coach throwsto athletes, athlete makescatch and runsthrough drill o Makesure theathlete completesthe catch and drivesup field as quick aspossiblewith ball in hand and propercarrying techniques

Key Points for the Drill  Breakdown o You wanttheplayersto not justbe looping around thecones,instead you wantthem breaking down (4steps) o The receiver should work4 step approach atthe top of the routebecausethis will help the athleteconcreate and focuson precision in the transition of the route  Drive o Once athletehasbroken down you want themto be driving towardsthenextcone with their handsup so they can makethe catch being throwing to them  If athletes drive elbow to play side this will help with a quick transition  Active Hands o Make sure athleteshandsare notstagnant butpumping theirarms whentheyare sprintingtowardsthe cone andduringthe breakdownaroundthe cone. Circuit 1: Comeback Drill Skillsbeingused:  Agility (FMS)  Running (FMS/FTS)  Rushing (FTS)  Coordination (FMS)  Routes(FTS)  Catching(FMS/FTS) Purpose:  The purposeof the “Comeback drill” is so athletescan become awareof the changesin direction and differentrouterunning they will use on the field. This drill is great fordeveloping routerunning skills,changing direction,footwork,and speed. Drill Instructions:  Putout 6 cones, 5 yardsapart.Startatcone #1, sprintforward to cone #2, comeback to cone# 3 (using properplanting technique- 4steps),sprintto cone#4, etc. o This will help in developmentof theComebackand CurlRoute  You will need two coaches to throw ballsto playersafter each playercomes back during the drill (Green stars=Coaches) o Get athletes to drop ball atcones 3 and 5 so they will be able to receive the nextpass o Coacheswill stand between cones1 and 3, 3 and 5 (2 and 4, 4 and 6 when reversed) ***Changedirections of the drill afterthe athleteshavegonethrough thedrill once Coaching Tips:  Makesure athletesare sprinting to and backfromeach cone  Makesure athleteshaveactive hands  Around theCone o Makesure they are breakingdown (4 steps),then drivingelbow to play side they are coming back too (e.g.when playergoes around cone#2 they will drive towardscone#3) o At top of the routeyou wantto keep yourarmspumping and keep yourchin over your toes,and turn and pivot backtowardstheperson throwing theball (cone) o Do notlet the athletejuststop after theroute,makesure they have active hands and are driving towardstheball  (Coaches) Throwa ballwhen athletes are sprinting forward to makesuretheir headsup (during comeback)

Game: Breakdown-Plant-Drive Relay Skillsbeingused:  Agility (FMS)  Balance(FMS)  Running (FMS/FTS)  Rushing (FTS)  Coordination (FMS) Purpose:  The main purposeof this drill is to have the athleteworking on breaking down and changing direction asquickly as possible. Drill Instructions:  Splitathletesintotwogroups,setup twoidentical Breakdown-Plant-Drive drills  Receivers run to each conewith ball in hand, and then they breakdown (Shimmy),then plant rightfootfrom right side or left footfromleftside. Accelerate to nextconeand repeat.  Once theathlete is all the way through the course, then nextathlete in line can go  The athlete completing thedrill will hand it off to the nextperson in line using properhandoff technique o Tip for Hand off:Find the belly button of nextperson in line o Tip for getting Hand Off:haveleft armhigh and rightarm low (trapping theballwith yourhands)  First teamwith all playerssuccessfully through thecoursewins! Coaching Tips:  When the receiver plantsfoot,verify plantfootis a half-step.Additionally,verify receiverkeeps his head up when running  Also make surethe body is low nothigh when cutting  For moreadvanced movements,havethereceiverthrow a head fakein once basicmovements are mastered (fakeshould equalsamesideas foot)

Key Points for the Drill Read  You wanttheathlete to havetheir head up so they know whatdirection they should be cutting too o This way they are not running into the person with thebag  The betterthe read the RB gets the betterhe will be able toreact to the bag Cutting  When the RB is running towards the bag you wanthimto makethe propercut towardsopen space  To makea propercut the RB will need to push away fromthebag and gain ground withhis other step Protect the Football  When cutting you need to protect the footballso the defender(the bag)doesnotknockitout  Rememberthe 5 pointsof Ball Carrying  Lowerbicep, forearm, finger,palm, chest

Drill Instructions:  Set-up two groupsof athletes  Have two cones(total4 conesboth stations) perstation plusa coach or volunteerto direct RB  Two Bags o Have a person behind each bag directing whatway the playergoes  Howit works: o Run straightat the bag o Bag left, cut right or Bag right cut left o Run through o RB should haveball in handswhilecompleting this drill *** More advanced drillcould haverunning backtaking thehand-off fromthecoach beforegoing through thecones Coaching Tips:  Makesure theathletes are cutting the properway when directed by the coach or volunteer  Additionally,makesurethe RB is running hard and notslowing down to wait forthe direction  If player feels comfortable,letthemthrow a stiff arm in as well

Furthermore, it is good for players to understand these words so they know exactly what they should be doing in the drill. Key Points for the Drill Not a Jump,More of a Hop  You wanttherunnerto do more of a hop around thebag than a jump.If runnerjumps,this leavesthem morevulnerablebecausethey are leaving the ground which makesthemeasier to knockoverin a game. Burst  You wantto makesure thatthe RB is having smallburstsin between each of thejump cuts  This way the runnerwill notlose as much speed going to the nextbag Protect the Football  When cutting you need to protectthe footballbecausethedefender would notknockit outin a game  Rememberthe 5 pointsof Ball Carrying  Lowerbicep,forearm, finger,palm, chest

Drill Instructions:  Set-up two groupsof athletes,two stations o Have bagsgoing leftat onestation and right at another  Three BagsPer station (totalof 6 bags) o If not enough bags,usecones  Howit works: o Run straightat the bag o Usecutting and good hip movementto steer clear of bags o More of a hop thana jump when cutting Coaching Tips:  Makesure theplayers havegood ballcontrolalong with footmovement  Makethe playeris notjustjumping overthebag,butactually moving around thebag withthe hop step  Burst,Hop,Burst, Hop (easy way to rememberthe key fundamentalsof thedrill)
