Presented at CMM Knowledge Tour 2013, CMM E-Learning is the optimal training program that allows you to learn PC-DMIS and metrology concepts at your own pace. E-Learning is also used to train a new employee and evaluate his or her knowledge level. By dedicating an hour a day to E-Learning, a new employee can be up and running with PC-DMIS in a few weeks and still have time to carry out other work. - In the past year, I have been lucky enough to work on a project to help our customers further their understanding of PC-DMIS. In and around the office we have been simply referring to this as ‘E-Learning’ So, today I would to take a few minutes to introduce to the e-learning concept and how it works.
- What is E-Learning? E-Learning is a video based learning environment, with detailed instructions on how to accomplish various metrology tasks in PC-DMIS. Each video is between 10 – 20 minutes in length. This was done deliberately to keep each learning segment to a manageable size. Adobe connect is driving these learning segments in the background over an internet connection. This means that the user has access to a power point at the beginning of each segment that outlines the goals and tasks required to complete the segment. The task segment, includes a lab or labs that would be completed on the users measuring equipment. A short quiz at the segments end allows the user to track his or her comprehension of the material. A certificate of completion is issued upon completion of the class.
- Why would want to E-Learn? The short answer is, E-Learning allows you to learn PC-DMIS and metrology concepts at your own pace. You can take a few days or a few months to finish a course. It is all up to you. This allows busy quality departments to implement training between the ebb and flow of the day and to get all the CMM users up to the same level of expertise. The lessons can be taken on any computer with an internet connection, so you can even login from your tablet to brush up on a particular concept. Another reason to use the E-Learning approach is review concepts learned in a past PC-DMIS class. You cannot remember everything. E-Learning serves as a convenient way to remind yourself of all the work flows and tasks enabled by PC-DMIS. Everything from Alignments to GD&T dimensioning is covered in detail. You could also use E-Learning to train a new employee and evaluate his or her knowledge level. By dedicating an hour a day to E-Learning, a new employee can be up and running with PC-DMIS in a few weeks and still have time to carry out other work.
- Requirements are fairly straight forward. You will need a CMM or an Arm with PC-DMIS. These tutorials were all created with the latest PC-DMIS versions so a newer PC-DMIS version would be a benefit but you can still get a lot of benefit from the class if your running an older PC-DMIS version. If your CMM or arm computer has an intrernet connection then you will only need a single computer.
