  7. Our brains create our reality. How many thoughts do we have each day? Guess How many of these are the same? Where do these 'same thoughts' come from - what we believe is true, necessary and how we should be - how we believe we should think, act and feel. We get used to these and it's easiest to just carry on - it's easiest to use our first/fast brain. If our fast brain is in charge and is fast, then in order to be a mindful leader, we need to practice getting our slow brain - our second brain to work so we can think act and feel like a mindful leader. Those words are important because having an identity as a mindful leader, believing that we are a mindful leader is what will make your fast brain, the easier one to engage create thoughts that will result in acting like a mindful leader. Now the thing is that neurons (the things that we think with) that fire together, wire together - thinking the same thoughts means that neural pathway is well trodden -
  8. Now the thing is that neurons that fire together, wire together - thinking the same thoughts means that a neural pathway is well-trodden, that it's almost like a superhighway. Consider for a second, someone in your office who irritates you? We all have that one person who rubs us up the wrong way. When their emails arrive in your inbox, what happens to your body, how do you respond? Even before you've read the email, you may have made up your mind about how you are going to respond - it's automatic, system one. Let's take it away from people - when you smell popcorn, what is your first thought? When you sit down to watch a movie... what do you want to snack on? How often do you pick up your phone - how aware of that are you? we all have habits - habits of thought, of action and of feelings. Our habits become ingrained and once they are ingrained we have to use system 2 to change them. System two takes effort, as you learned so making that effort all the time is not what our bodies or brains want to do. the thin is, we can change our neural pathways - I'm going to show you a video - it'll look weird, but what you're seeing is neurons inside a brain wiring and rewiring all the time - you can see the 'super highways' and how the new pathways are formed.
  9. Let's examine what a mindful leader would 'think, do and feel' Let's start with thinking - what would a mindful leader think? Please put ideas into the chat, and raise your hand if you have some input too. Feel? Do? What do you need to How many of you have been promoted - you needed to change your 'way' - how you think, act and feel. which was easiest? Which was hardest? How many of you have felt that you're an imposter, felt like you're not the leaders everyone else thinks you are?
  10. If we're in agreement that a mindful leader makes use of their 'slow' brain first, then balances that with their ‘fast/intuitive brain, we need to learn to slow our brains. A great and quick practice for this is breathwork. Easy to do in the office, no one needs to know you're doing it and it has an almost immediate physical response. think about when you panic, how do you breathe - so let's do the opposite. Sit comfortable and close your eyes. breath in and out and then do what is on the slide at your own pace. Lots of different techniques - find one that works best for you Remember that this is a practice - you do it before you are in a stressful situation so you can '
