2. Introduction
• This task builds on your Task 2 work.
• You need to test your four identified
weaknesses. The testing process should use
standardised or bespoke tests.
• From this testing your results will identify two
priority areas for improvement.
• Your eight week training plan will focus on
these two priority areas only.
3. Testing and Training Timeline

4. Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 1/4
Trait: rucking

Test Detail
Method Here:
• Watched games of maddy playing in the last year to identify how
often she doesn’t ruck properly/ looses the ball in a ruck. I tallied
up this.
Test Result 1: NA Test Result 1 Rating: NA
Test Result 2: NA Test Result 2 Rating: NA
Test Result 3: NA Test Result 3 Rating: NA
Best Result: Found that her success rate on an a attacking ball was about 30/70
(in favour of failure)
Best Result
Rating:
This is a big issue as that means she looses her own ball more than
she secures it.
5. Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 2/4
Trait: Taking the contact
Test Name: interview

Test:
No Normative Data: No
If Not A

Test Detail
Method Here:
• Interview with Maddy discussing how she felt she took the
contact in terms of retaining possession and how often she was
able to present the ball backwards in a long position.
Test Result 1: NA Test Result 1 Rating: NA
Test Result 2: NA Test Result 2 Rating: NA
Test Result 3: NA Test Result 3 Rating: NA
Best Result: Maddy felt she had a 50/50 success rate
Best Result
Rating:
This was only on attacking ball and one of the minumum
excpectations set by the college is to retain the ball in contact.
6. Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 3/4
Trait: flexibility

Best Result: 23
Best Result

Average. The others also fell in the average category depending on
which data I used. But they all came up at roughly average
7. Testing Excellence Trait – Weakness 4/4

Best Result
Rating:
This is good as it is more than her body weight. Could still improve
but not bad.
8. Improvement Target 1 (P6)
Priority
Excellence
Trait
rucking
Baseline Test
Result
Maddy lost the ball 70% of the time in a ruck sitation
Specific Target Reduce this to 30%
Measurable Acheivable by the end of the 8 weeks
Agreed Upon Maddy felt this was a good aim
Realistic Yes this a realistic target as it is basic things that can be done to
improve the retention rates.
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01):
Review (WB 09/02): down to 50%
Complete (WB 09/03):down to 30%
9. Improvement Target 1 – Justification
(M3)
• Why is this target needed? This is needed as it is a
minimum expectation of most teams. This is needed as
losing the ball especially in sevens means that the defence
is unorganised.
• What will be the performance benefit to the performer
(e.g. team selection, injury prevention and representative
honours)? If she can’t win the ball more she wont be
selected for teams.
• What will be the performance benefit to the performers
team(s) (e.g. unit, attack, defence and whole team
benefits)? If she achieves this the team will have more ball
and therefor more opportunities to attack which has the
potential to result in a score.
10. Improvement Target 2 (P6)
Priority
Excellence
Trait
Taking the contact
Baseline Test
Result
Looses the ball the same amount as she retains it
Specific Target To increase the retention rate to 75%
Measurable Yes feedback from player and coach and video analysis
Agreed Upon Yes athlete felt that she could achieve this
Realistic Yes by the end of the eight weeks. Relatively simple changes will make
this possible to achieve
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01):
Review (WB 09/02):
Complete (WB 09/03):
11. Improvement Target 2 – Justification
(M3)
• Why is this target needed? This is needed because without the ball
the team cant score and the minimum expectations of most higher
level teams is that players can maintain the ball in contact.
• What will be the performance benefit to the performer (e.g. team
selection, injury prevention and representative honours)? It will
mean she is more likely to be selected for teams if she can retain
the ball. This is because it is a basic skill that all players must have to
play at any reasonable level let alone a high level
• What will be the performance benefit to the performers team(s)
(e.g. unit, attack, defence and whole team benefits)? The team will
benefit as they will then have more ball to play with which is key as
without the ball they can’t win games. It will mean they aren’t
disorganised too as there wont be a turn over so they are set up
appropriately to attack.
