1. Topic “Trip”
One year ago I went to Barcelona, the first week of September; with my parents, my brother, my friend
Eleonora and her parents.
That was the last time that my brother come with us on holiday because he’s 19 years old, now, and he
want to go on holiday with his friends.
I picked my luggage two weeksbefore the leaving, because I was too excitedand I had waited that trip so
I brought in Barcelona a lot of clothes, the majority was superfluous, but when I travel I want to be sure
to have enough clothes.
The crucial morning, I woke up at 3 o’clock, I couldn’t sleep,I spent an hour and a half above the bed
trying to fall asleep.During the flighton the plane, I sleptand when we landed in Spain, I had a terrible
We arrived more or less at midday, the flight takes only an hour and a half, but all of us were tired, we
wanted to go in our flat and sleep; but we had to wait until 2 p.m. because the flat wasn’t available
before; so we decided to spent the afternoon visitingthe old part of Barcelona.
The airbus took us until Catalonia square (from here you can practically go anywhere).
With our suitcases, we followedthe Rambla (the main boulevard of the city) and we stopped eating in La
Boqueria Market, which is a large public market, it’s a place that congregates all the fresh food of
Then we kept walking on the Rambla, until the leisure port, where a lot of boat were docked.
After that, we wanted go to our apartment but we got lost in Gothic district, characterised by ancient
churches and small suggestive streets.
Fortunately, after the unexpected trip into the centre we found an underground stop and finally we
arrived to the apartment.
Our flat was quite near the city centre, there were a lot of food stores and an underground stop.
All of us had a shower and while our parents had a nap, me and my friend Eleonora were unpacking the
The day after my mum discovered that my twenty-year-old cousin was in Barcelona with his friends, but
they had a completely differentholiday from us, they slept until late because the night before they were
gone to the discos.
Every morning we woke up early, at 7:30a.m. and we went to had breakfast in a café near our flat.
That café was the only one that opened earlier, the others ones were closed; the owner was kind and
funny, every morning we laugh together, even if he was Spanish and we Italian.
Barcelona is famous for Gaudi’s building,he created a lot of buildingcharacterised by Catalan
We visited Casa Batllò, Casa Milà and the most well-know:Sagrada Família, it’s an unfinishedchurch, it
was absolutely breath-taking, I have never seen something like that, that style of architecture was
While we visitedthe buildings, we listenedto a mp3 player, which explainedus the architect story and
the information about the monumental.
One day the weather was particularly sunny and hot, so we decided to go for a swim in the sea.
2. The nearest underground stop was in front of “Parc de la Ciutadella”, the biggest park of Barcelona; we
crossed it to get to the beach.
This park includes the city zoo, the Parliament of Catalonia, a small lake, and a large fountain, it was quite
big and we walked a lot, but it was worth it.
The seashore was more short than our beaches, or there were so many people that I didn’t see the sand.
After the bath we kept walking down the street that ran along the beach, there were many food stands
and also some five-stars hotels.
We sat down on the grass and we saw that the place was full of people using skateboards, scooters,
rollerblades, bicycles…; there was a special atmosphere, I was relaxed and I felt like I was in California,
maybe because of the palm trees.
Another day we visitedPark Güell, it was a monumental park created by Gaudi.
The park was outside of the city and the underground took 30 minutes to arrives there.
That part of Barcelona reminded me a Mexican village, there were simple houses without the roof and a
lot of palm trees and cactuses.
My parents bought the tickets online for every monument, except Park Güell, they thought “we can do it
before we enter in the park” but there were so many people that the visitswere closed until 6:00p.m.
and it was the 3 o’clock.
We were sad because everyone recommended us to visit the monumental zone.
Suddenly it stated to rain and when we tried to get out of the rain, we saw another entry, the entry of
the unpaid part of the park.
We enjoyedthe walk into the park, every sculpture, every bench, every path reflectedthe architectural
style of Gaudi.
The last day of the trip, my dad saw a publicity announce of Castel of Montjuïc, which is a castle located
in Montjuïc mountain, right next of the sea.
We had to take the cable car to arrive there; the castle offered fantastic viewsover the city and included
a military museum. We spent a nice morning, but we didn’t know what to do in the afternoon.
So we decided to go shopping in the old district of Barcelona, to buy the last souvenirs for relatives and
During the holiday we always ate well,every times we went to the restaurant for lunch and for dinner;
fortunately, we walked a lot and we didn’t get fat.
I thought that in Barcelona you can eat the typical Spanish food, but obviously they were different
between them. There are so many differentways to cook paella or make mojitos and sangrias.
The last evening of the trip we celebrated my parents and Eleonora’s parents’ marriage anniversary. We
went to an expensive restaurant located in the main street of Barcelona, near Casa Batllò.
In Barcelona and probably in Spain, in the morning the cafes opened about at 8:00, when we wanted
have lunch we waited, at least, until 13:00 and we had dinner at 20:30/21:00.
(We had to take it slower).
I really like this trip, because I had the opportunity to visitSpain and improve my Spanish.
Barcelona is an amazing city and I recommend everyone to visit it.
