Wearable devices Wearables will have a significant and pervasive impact on the economy in coming years, profoundly altering how we interact with our technology, our environment and each other: smart watches, glasses, smart clothing … There may be upward of 15% of smartphone owners who end up buying a wearable, the authors opine, for perhaps 6% share of the total global electronics market. Source: The Next Big Thing (Credit Suisse) forecasts are that 6.4 billion of connected things will be in use worldwide in 2016, up 30 percent from 2015, and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. Source: Gartner Inc. The wearables market is a lot bigger than investors realize, they contend, at perhaps $3 billion to $5 billion today, rising to perhaps $30 billion to $50 billion over the next 3-5 year

European Commission Public Consultation on mobile Health (April 2014) Some of the Proposed actions identified as needed the development of mHealth: Security, Big Data and Privacy: deal with massive amounts of data and protect users privacy at the same time Interoperability and european standards to: • Connect the devices and get the maximun outcomes from the potential of mHealth generated "Big Data" • Integrate the mHealth solutions with the EMRs/EHRs • European standards on the way the information is processed Patient Safety and Legal Framework: Certification and quality of mHealth applications Create clinical evidence on the uptake of mHealth solutions Define funding and reimbursement schemes for the mHealth services Conclusions after the Consultation: mHealth is in a prelimnary phase but it will be a key piece in the future of the Healthcare Systems mHealth will play a fundamental role to shift from a health system prepared to cure towards one based in preventionSource: Report on the Public Consultation on the Green Paper on Mobile Health
