2. Question 1:In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
• My masthead is very original. I have used a very bold font so it
stands out and is clear to read. I have used the colours black
and grey because they are dark and violent and that is what
most rap is affiliated with. My front cover picture is simple
because I wanted it to be similar to one of Kendrick Lamar I
saw. The facial expressions are very vacant which makes it
look serious. I have centred the picture because this draws
attention and focus to who will be in the magazine. My cover
is reasonably similar to the vibe front cover using similar
colours and a similar layout.
3. Question 2:How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
• My magazine targets people who listen to rap music. the
three rap artists I have in my picture are all well known.
Straight away this makes the reader know what my magazine
will be about. The picture I have used is unintentional which
makes it seem professional that my magazine can get away
without using a scheduled photo. This draws the reader as
they know it is legit and promotes a laidback atmosphere.
4. Question 3:What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• I think my publisher of choice would be Bauer media group.
The reason I would choose them is because their current
magazines are similar to my magazine and they are very
popular in the public eye. They already have many customers
which would be a good starting point for my magazine. It
would be good if they did publish my magazine because it
would also benefit them giving them a wider range of
customers.
5. Question 4:Who would be the audience for your
media product?
• The target audience for my magazine is from ages 16-
22 for male and female customers but aimed more
towards male customers. This is for people who are
into rap and R&B music.
6. Question 5:How did you attract/address your
audience?I have put the
magazine logo in
the corner so it is
clear and easy to
see.
A big clear picture of
who the article is
about. This draws all
the attention to them
and makes them stand
out.
Very small but clear and
easy to read font. The
reader will not feel pushed
away from trying to read it.
Bold title so it
stands out and
draws the
readers
attention.
7. Question 6:What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
• When I first started using Photoshop I really struggled with the tools and
found it complicated. At the start my work is not as good as it could have
been due to this. The way I have laid out my first pieces of work are poor
and so are the colour schemes. Once I got use to it my music magazine is
much better. I have learnt how to use the tools and layers efficiently and
this has helped me edit my photos so they look natural.
8. Question 7:Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?
• Looking back at my school magazine, the quality is very poor
and it looks amateurish. In some ways it is similar to real
magazines like barcodes, price etc. but apart from that it is
dreadful compared to my music magazine. The colour scheme
is very poor in my school magazine, whereas in my music
magazine I have kept it the same throughout making it look
professional. Since being able to use Photoshop efficiently my
work quality has increased dramatically.
