Thank you for the opportunity to introduce Mr Charles Gird. Charles is a BA Humanities
Graduate from Stellenbosch University, and he is currently completing his PGCE at Rhodes
University. Charles is a loyal, committed individual who has a passion for educating,
mentoring, coaching and empowering young school learners.

Our candidate was born in Paarl, in the Western Cape, grew up in Addo, in the Eastern Cape before moving to
Grahamstown where he was enrolled at St Andrews Preparatory for his Grade 6 year. He completed his schooling
career at St Andrews College in 2008. He was born into a loving, supportive family environment. His mother is
an entrepreneur at heart, and runs Haricots Deli and Bistro, and his father supplies organic pesticides to Eastern

Cape farmers. He has two siblings, a younger sister who works in hospitality at a Game Lodge, and a brother
who is a researcher at Stellenbosch University’s Conservation Department.
As mentioned, academically, our candidate has completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, majoring
in History and Psychology, at Stellenbosch University, in 2014, and is currently completing a Post graduate
Certification in Education, through Rhodes University. On qualification our candidate will be qualified to teach
History and Life Orientation for grades 7 to 12 , as well as Geography and Afrikaans from grades 7 to 9. On
completion of his PGCE education qualification, he would like to explore educational psychology and studies on
emotional intelligence, and the impact this has on young learners
Our candidate views his personal strengths to be his passion for education, mentorship, coaching, counselling
and empowering young individuals. This passion he discovered when he was selected while in his matric year
at St Andrews College, to join a select group of 4, representing ‘Tutors Worldwide’, where he tutored for a year
at Woodbridge School in Suffolk, England. During his tertiary study years, on return to South Africa, he coached
cricket and rugby to u/14 and u/15 learners. An enthusiastic, committed and dedicated individual who has a
strong work ethic. An individual who works well with and in teams. Our candidate has good communication,
presentation and problem solving skills, he has a warm and strong energy, and young learners naturally gravitate
to him for mentorship and guidance. An individual who is open-minded, and understands the importance of
remaining relevant for the new tech-savvy generation, and the generations that will follow.
Our candidate’s work experience to date includes, and mentioned above, a year in 2009 where he worked as a
‘stooge’ in Woodbridge School, Suffolk, England. He assisted in the boarding house as well as coached rugby,
cricket, hockey and athletics to senior and junior pupils. On return to South Africa, during his tertiary studies at
Stellenbosch University, he was employed by the Somerset College to coach u/15 cricket and u/14 rugby. He
also assisted with boarding house responsibilities. Concurrently, he coached private rugby and cricket for a
private coaching practice. After completing his undergraduate studies at the end of 2014, he enrolled at Rhodes
University for a Postgraduate Certification in Education, a one year course which he will complete in the next
month (November 2015). During this time he has held the role of student tutor for St Andrew College,
Grahamstown, where he has also assisted in coaching the u/14A cricket and 5th
XV rugby teams.
In summary, a humble, teachable and self motivated individual who is quietly ambitious, determined and has
strength of character. An individual who works well within a team environment but who also works well on
individual tasks and projects. An individual with a passion for education, mentorship, coaching and empowering
young individuals. On completion of his PGCE education qualification, would like to explore educational
psychology and studies on emotional intelligence, and the impact this has on young learners. An individual who
