The Woman In Black (2012)
                    Text:
The main actors name ‘Daniel l Radcliffe 'has been positioned at the
top of the poster to indicate his character will be the most significant
character in the film. Furthermore the font style used has been
consistent as it is a basic formal one.

However, although the main actors name has been placed at the top
of the poster, there is no image of him The main character in the
poster is ‘The Woman in Black’ herself to highlight the film is centred
around her. This suggest although ‘Daniel Radcliffe’ is highlighted as
the main character, it will be ‘The Woman in Black’ who determines
the direction in which the narrative will take.

The title of the film has been positioned at the bottom however with
graphics added. The graphics added around the text are significant as
it highlights the genre of the film. The graphics creates a ghostly
image around the text and again acts as a enigma code for the genre-
horror. There is a consistent colour scheme running through out the
product: brown, white and black. It is through the colour scheme,
that an old fashioned image is achieved by the poster, as the film is
historically set. This could suggest the institution have created an
archaic photograph image for the poster, which is reflected of the
black and white blur on the top half of the poster.

The credit codes have been written in a conventional style as in many
feature films with the institution and production mentioned.
Furthermore under the credit codes, are the logos of other
institutions that may have been included in the creation of the film.

The tagline used is reflective of the plot of the film, which is a
conventional of all posters. The tagline has been positioned beneath
‘The Woman In Black’ to indicate her motive in the film : ‘She’ll never
                    let go.’
Orphan (2009)
Tagline and representation of character:
The tagline used on the poster has been written in capital letters to stress
the nature of the character on the poster: ‘THERES SOMETHING WRONG
WITH ESTHER’. The full stop placed at the end of the sentence makes the
sentence become a strong statement, which is linked writing style of the
word ‘orphan’ beneath the character. The colour white used on both the
main tagline and text beneath the character becomes self explanatory for
the audience that her unusual nature comes from her orphanage
background. The placement of the second tagline : ‘Can you keep a
secret’? Is another way of drawing the audience into the product as they
will be drawn to finding what is ‘wrong’ with ‘Esther’ in order to
understand the explicit meaning of keeping ‘A SECRET’.
The collar placed on the characters neck could be symbolic of the ‘secret’
that has been referred to in the poster as the only colour that is similar to
the colour used in the second tagline.
The font style and main image act as enigma code for the genre of the film;
the font style used for the word ‘orphanage’ and the paleness of the
character’s skin illustrates this.

Image: The main image is of the antagonist in the film. Her facial
expression is stern and as part of the horror genre will determine what
the persona of her character will be like. Her message is communicated at
the bottom of the poster, with the use of the second tagline: ‘Can you keep
a secret?’. The image of the antagonist has been enlarged which suggest
she will be the most dominant in the film. Furthermore, this emphasises by
the tagline that the film will have a direct focus on ‘Esther’.

The credit’s have been placed beneath the main image, which is a key
conventional of real media text posters. Furthermore, text has been
aligned with the main image rather than being aligned in a conventional
way such as the poster of ‘The Woman in Black’.
‘The Lovely Bones’
Image/ background and use of text:

The poster has been unconventional in the placement of the names of the actors and
actresses in the film, as their names have all been placed at the top. In this way, the
poster suggest all actors will play a considerably significant role. However the hierarchy
of important roles is suggested by the two names which have been placed first : ‘Mark
     Wahlberg’ and ‘Rachel Weisz’.
Although the antagonist of the film’s name has been placed first, the use of the main
protagonist’s image indicates she will drive the narrative of the plot in to action.
There has been a consistent colour scheme used :white, purple yellow and orange.
All these colours hold connotations that are directly linked to the presentation of the
poster and the genre of the film. The use of the dark purple is used for the trees and
ground below and the image of the main protagonist could highlight death. The light
     colours used to edit the main protagonist contrast strongly with the dark colours below;
the dark colours could signify the truth about the film, as the audience is led to believe
the theme of the film will be light hearted as the one part of the title has been made
white and bold to convey this idea. However, the use of purple grass and ‘bones’ being
placed in front of the grass suggest there is also something sinister about the film.
The tagline also reinforces this idea: ‘The story of a life and everything that came after’.
The tagline has been decreased in size, which could suggest the main image is meant to
communicate with the target audience, which is reinforced by the protagonist’s direct
gaze at the audience. The face image of the protagonist has been divided between the
darker shade of purple, and the peach on the left of the poster. Again this explicitly
reinforces the narrative behind the tagline which implicitly suggest the main protagonist
is a ghost: ‘The story of a life and everything that came after’.
Conventionally, the institution has been placed at the bottom of the poster with the
logos of other institution's that may have been involved in the making of the film
beneath it. However, the unconventional aspect of the credits is that the institution
have not stuck to the conventional font style used to depict the institution. The font
style that has been used is consistent. The font style used on the poster could be
reflective of the main protagonist of the film as she is represented as young and
innocent. In the same way, the font style used it soft and is not sharp as other feature
     films.
