Veteran Identification Card Tutorial
1. Instructional Guide for Veteran(s):
How to attain a VeteranIDCard throughVets.gov.
Aftercompletingthisinstructional guide, youwillreceive aVeteranIDCardthroughthe mail. Thiscard
will provide sufficientproof thatyouare a veteranand will allow youtotake advantage of several local
discounts,benefits,andentitlements.
Directions:
You will needtobe loggedintothe VA Veterans website athttps://www.vets.gov. If are not able tolog
inyou can eithercontact the helpline listedon theirwebsite orvisityourlocal veteranservice office for
assistance.
Step 1:
From the Vets.govhome page,the easiest
wayto get to the applicationfora Veteran
ID Card isto scroll to the very bottomand
clickthe firstlinkinthe centercolumtitled,
“Applyfora printedVeteranIDCard.”
From here,follow the logininstructionsto
procede.
Step 2:
You are now on the VeteranIDCard
landingpage. Readthe stipulationsthat
are listedandthenclickthe “Requesta
VeteranIDCard” button if you still want
one.
2. Step 3:
You are nowon the page that will enable youtosetupthe informationforyourVeteranIDCard. The
informationonthe tophalf of the page shouldbe auto-populatedfromthe VA database,butcheckthis
informationtoensure itsaccuracy. If all informationisaccurate,the onlythingyouwill needtodoon
thisportionisto selectyourbranch of service froma dropdownmenu.
Step 4:
The bottom half of the screenwill askyouto uploadtwodocuments. The firstis a photoor scan of a
currentgovernmentissuedID. Thiscouldbe a
driverslicense orsomethingsimilar. The
secondthingyouwill be askedtouploadisa
currentphoto. Thisneedstobe a shouldersup
headshotthatison a white oroff-white
background,similartothe one inthe example
theygive. These twodocumentscanbe
uploadedbyeitherclickingthe “Selectand
Upload”buttonsor by simplydraggingand
droppingthe imagesontothem. Youshould
see a previewof eachitem,ensure thatboth
appearclear andcrisp.
Step 5:
Afterthose twodocumentsare uploaded,youcanclickthe
“Preview Card”buttontosee an image of what yourID card will
looklike. If everythinglooksgood,clickthe “RequestCard”
buttonat the bottomleftof the page to submityourrequest
for processing. The nextpage will show youthe addressto
whichthe card will be mailedandthe statusof your request(at
thistime the statuswill be “pending”).
3. Step 6:
Withina fewminutesof submittingyourrequest,youwill receiveanemail confirmingthatyouhave
successfullysubmittedarequestforyouVeteranIdentificationCard. Itwill tell youthatthe statusof
your requestis“PENDING”at thistime. Youwill receive email notificationseverytimethe status of your
requestchangestoone of the following: ADDITIONALINFORMATIONNEEDED, PENDINGADDITIONAL
REVIEW,APPROVED,SENTTO PRINTER,and MAILED.
