Arizona Mine Access Road
Located in Arizona, this BridgeCor® structure eliminated an unwanted at-grade railroad crossing and has
improved safety on a busy county road, providing local mine access. The structure’s skew required a
reinforced concrete headwall in conjunction with wingwalls constructed from Keystone® KeyGrid™system. This
end treatment selection helped to stabilize the structure during the backfill process and provided a significant
cost savings over cast-in-place walls.

Maine Mall Road was one of four major thoroughfares targeted for retrofit to improve water quality of runoff
entering the waterways of the Long Creek Watershed. The area was extensively developed, and included runoff
from both individual properties and the public right-of-way. Existing utilities including direct burial cables and
high pressure gas mains along with right-of-way and land restrictions made the placements of BMP’s difficult.
Engineers selected a solution that included ten biofilters (both planted and unplanted) and three Jellyfish®
Filters to provide effective stormwater treatment and improve water quality.

The city of Memphis sits on a bluff at the widest point of the Mississippi River and has a 57 foot annual
fluctuation in water elevation. The area known as the Beale Street Landing was in need of stabilization,

access area that will include modern docking facilities, commercial space and connect recreational areas with
a dramatic overlook for riverfront activities and events.

6. Stormwater Management » HEL-COR® Retention System
City Center Regional Stormwater Facility
The city of Mountlake Terrace, Washington needed a new stormwater retention facility to provide stormwater
treatment and downstream flood control. The facility would treat runoff from an area of about 13 acres in the
city’s downtown core and protect the water quality in the Lake Ballinger watershed.
To address these issues the engineers on the project proposed the creation of a facility below the Mountlake
Terrace Library parking lot utilizing a CDS pre-treatment system in front of a large perforated HEL-COR® CMP
retention system.

Bennett Parkway Extension
As part of its Economic Development Strategic Plan, the city of Zionsville needed to extend Bennett Parkway
in order to develop a new business park that would become home to a new 300,000-square-foot distribution
center. A precast CON/SPAN® O-Series® bridge was chosen as the optimal solution because of its ability to
provide a quick, cost-effective solution for the fast-track project.
This O-Series® three-sided structure met the permitting requirements of the Indiana Department of
Environmental Management and the Indiana Department of Transportation’s specifications, Section 723.

8. Stormwater Management » Terre Arch® Detention System
Festival Shoppes is a new commercial development in Boca Raton, Florida. The development was built in
an urban environment on the site of a pre-existing above ground detention pond. The underground system
needed to encircle the entire building footprint, be installed underneath the parking lot, and provide a high
volume of storage with little cover while maintaining traffic load.
Engineers selected Terre Arch™, a modular, precast concrete stormwater storage system engineered
especially for underground installation in shallow environments. The project called for 367 Terre Arch™
48 chambers and 43 distribution manifolds, providing 247,517 cubic feet of storage.

Flight 93 National Memorial
On September 11, 2001, the United States came under attack when four commercial airliners were hijacked
and used to strike targets on the ground. Nearly 3,000 people tragically lost their lives. Due to the actions of
the 40 passengers and crew aboard United Flight 93, headed for the U.S. Capital, one attack was thwarted.
To honor the courageous passengers and crew, the Flight 93 National Memorial was created at the crash site.
To reach the Memorial, a 800’ x 10’ multi-span, Connector® style, Continental® truss bridge, with a horizontally
curved alignment, was installed in just three days. The weathering steel pedestrian bridge allows visitors dry
passage over the wetlands area.

11. Retaining Walls » Keystone® Retaining Wall Systems
In order for motorists to travel south on US 85, they had to first cross the BNSF railroad tracks (which was
closed more than 3 hours a day), deal with the normal flow of traffic while also avoiding additional commuters
from a major employer in the area. The result was the perfect recipe for congestion. Plans to separate the
railroad crossing from US 85 were 30 years in the making and include realignment where US 85 enters
Torrington. A main component to the realignment was a 24,000 square foot Keystone Compac II retaining
wall. Since every construction step necessary to completing the realignment relied upon, in some way, the
construction of the wall system, timing was critical.

12. Pipe » DuroMaxx® Steel Reinforced Polyethylene
Mobile Regional Airport - Runway 14/32
In February 2013, the Mobile Airport Authority filed an application with the Federal Aviation Administration
to garner a small stipend intended for continued development and rehabilitation for the airport. Part of that
involved the rehabilitation of a single 1,740’ long, 132” diameter culvert that ran under Runway 14/32.
Given the location, replacement was completely out of the question. The Airport did not want to have to shut
down operations while construction was underway. Ultimately, they turned to a 120” diameter DuroMaxx® steel
reinforced polyethylene (SRPE) liner pipe supplied by Contech Engineered Solutions to slipline into the existing
culvert.
