Simple Life-Changing Hacks For Self-Improvement
In this day and age, there are a lot of uncertainties and unanswered questions. You
may even ask, what am I doing with my life? Please don’t worry. Nobody is perfect,
and no one has a perfect life where everything is unicorn farts and rainbows. I have
been in the same shoes that you are in now. I ask myself the same question over and
over again. There’s a status quo that today's society deems correct, which is to go to
school, graduate, get a job, get married, work some more, retire, and then eventually
die. How depressing is that? I don’t know about you, but there are some people out
there who long for something more meaningful. Now, don’t get me wrong, all of
those things are great if that’s what your ideal reality looks like, but if you ever
wanted more, then look no further. There are four key ingredients you can implement
in your life to improve its outcome. Not a lot of people know, let alone do them. But,
to get the most out of life, some aspects can and need to be improved. In this article, I
will talk about four self-improvement hacks that you can do to live life abundantly
because your life is what you make it.
Hack 1: Practice Productivity
Productivity is one of the main issues a lot of people have. Let me ask you a question.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Can I take a guess?
Nine times out of ten, the first thing you do is check your phone? Or maybe you hit
the snooze button at least three times before finally deciding to get up.
Make a plan the day before. Not only will this give you a time frame for what needs
to be done, but it will give you direction. These plans don’t have to be complicated.
What do you need to take care of tomorrow? Plan it out and stick to it by creating a
timeline of when you’d like to get these tasks accomplished. Plan and see how it helps
with your productivity.
I know a lot of people are going to hate this next hack, but it’s necessary to help with
your productivity. RESIST THE SNOOZE BUTTON! Yes, it will suck the first
couple of times, but once you get into the habit of waking up the first time your alarm
goes off, you’ll start to see and feel the difference in your day to day productivity.
According to Reena Mehra, M.D., M.S., Director of Sleep Disorders Research at
Cleveland Medical, snoozing your alarm isn’t helpful to our bodies because we fail to
get the restorative sleep that we need. The latter part of our sleep cycle is REM and
dream sleep. These cycles also help with restoring our bodies. You disrupt your REM
sleep cycle, which causes a “ fight or flight” that increases blood pressure and
heartbeat. In other words, “ hitting snooze bad”.
Drinking water is so beneficial for your body, especially when first waking up in the
morning. The human body is 72% water. Why not give your body what it needs? The
benefits of drinking 16 oz of water in the morning include; waking up your
metabolism, increasing your calorie-burning potential, helping with appetite control,
weight loss, helping nutrients pass through the bloodstream, helping your body
dispose of waste and toxins, regulating our internal temperature, increasing your
energy and alertness, boosting your immune system, and preventing cramps and
headaches. In other words, drink water.
Sunshine helps your body create nutrient Vitamin D, which helps with bone growth,
blood cells, and the immune system. With this also, practice precautions and not
sunburn because too much sun can lead to skin cancer. Not only is the Sun good for
you, but nature in general. Get outside. Get active. Go for a walk on a trail. Lay in the
grass at the park. Establish an understanding of you and nature because we are all
connected.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the necessary energy to
complete your tasks, fuels your body and helps your metabolism and brain function.
Ideally, eat a healthy breakfast. You shouldn’t eat anything heavy because that’ll suck
and you’ll end up feeling both full and sluggish. A good option is eggs, turkey bacon,
and wheat toast. Remember, think light.
Last but not least, spend time with your friends and family. Humans need connections.
That’s why we have romantic partners, best friends, family, work out buddies, etc. We
long for a personal connection with someone or a group of people. Why not let it be
with friends and family? Spending time with friends and family is healthy emotionally,
mentally, physically, and spiritually because it allows us to remove those walls that
we put up during our day to day operations. We go to work and deal with work-life
and all its problems. You may even come home and have more problems with your
partner to deal with. You need people you can be yourself around to recharge.
Hack 2: Meditate
Why is meditating so damn important? Not a lot of people know this, but meditating
can; reduce pain and enhance the body’s immune system, reduce negative feelings
like depression and anxiety, increase blood flow and slow the heart rate, can provide a
sense of balance, help reverse heart disease, help control thoughts, increase energy,
and reduce stress. You don’t have to go full-blown monk and dedicate years to
practicing the art of meditation. All you need to do is set aside 10-30 per day to
practice meditation. Most people have issues with meditating because their mind is
too busy with their thoughts. Practice makes perfect and you know to start today. If
you need help, here's a video below with a fantastic meditation technique.
Hack 3: Have A Purpose
What is your purpose in this world? What were you born to do? What drives and
motivates you? What’s your purpose? These are questions that anyone can rarely
answer because we have cluttered lives. Some so many people still don’t know what
they want to do in their lives. To evolve and grow personally, you have to have a
purpose. If you could do anything in the world, what would you do? Why haven’t you
done this yet? Let me guess, you don’t have time or money? Or is it fear? Fear of the
unknown. Fear of what might happen if things don’t go the way you planned. To find
the purpose, you need to truly find yourself. I swear it’s not some fortune cookie
nonsense. Think about it. When it is all said and done, 90% of the time people tend to
shy away from things that make them uncomfortable or uncertain.
Having a purpose isn’t only about possessing a set of skills that sets you apart from
the rest. It’s also about connection. The connection you have with others. Reading is a
fantastic way to develop purpose because you can develop connections with people
anywhere. Books take you on journeys and allow you to express yourself mentally
and creatively with others. That’s why there are book clubs, libraries, etc. Books
allow for creative thinking and insight. Reading can also open your eyes to lives never
lived and places never are seen. It helps you develop that childlike wonder; that
curiosity.
Another way to find purpose is to turn your pain into healing for other people. You’ve
survived and come out on top, so why not help others who might be going through
exactly what you’ve been through? All it takes is one life impacted and it can have
massive results because humans need connections. You helped this person overcome
their obstacles and now they have the knowledge to pass on to someone new who’s
going through what you’ve two been through already. That’s powerful!
Being emotionally sound is another great way to have a purpose. Nourish your
optimism. Practice gratitude, humility, and altruism. You’ve heard this saying before,
“ actions speak louder than words”. That’s so true. There’s one thing to say what
you’re going to do, but when you do what you say you’re going to do that’s more
meaningful. Listen to what other people appreciate about you. These are your best
traits that allow you to connect with people because if one person appreciates this
specific trait then others will also. Be kind and generous. Try to be more
understanding. Don’t be quick to assume. Try to do better and grow emotionally in
your life. If there are grudges you are still holding on to, let them go and move on
because nine times out of ten, that same person you’re still pissed over doesn’t give
any thoughts toward you. You’re the last person he or she is thinking about right now.
So what are you doing? Move on. Through trials comes experience and knowledge.
Forgive them and leave it at that. You don’t have to carry that weight anymore. This
can also promote health and well-being. Your newfound emotional growth will
provide the foundation for your sense of purpose.
As I stated before, humans need connections. That is why you should also build a
community. Meaning, find people you can connect with and relate to. Find friends.
Find people who understand you. Find people that make you feel comfortable enough
to tell them anything. Most importantly, find like-minded people. You know, the ones
that share your same dreams, goals, and aspirations. When you have a community of
people like that, your purpose will become even clearer because you now have people
you can openly express yourself with. This will be the start of a magical journey!
Hack 4: Be Confident
What does confidence mean to you? When it comes to confidence, most people are
lacking. Not because they aren’t worthy or anything like that, but because don’t have
any self-assurance. By definition, confidence is a feeling of self-assurance arising
from one’s appreciation of one's abilities or qualities. Successful people have one
thing in common: confidence. They don’t think like other people. They make
decisions and stand by those decisions. They know exactly how to get what they want
and make their opinions heard. Now, confidence isn’t the same as being an asshole.
You can be confident and also be a decent human being. I will talk about things you
can do to build authentic confidence. You don’t want the, “ fake it till you make it”
type of confidence because even if you look at the part, you won’t feel the part. You
need to have the ability to be naturally confident.
You need to have a clear image of how you want to be seen. How do you want others
to see you? How would you like to see yourself? When you visualize yourself, you’re
setting everything up to accomplish this. Do you want to grab attention in a room just
by walking in? Visualize that in detail. Now, affirm yourself. Think about it and speak
about it. Once you align your thoughts with your words, that’s when the magic
happens. Haven’t you ever heard the saying,” there’s power in the tongue”? Use it.
Believe what you affirm and set yourself up to win. Don’t overextend yourself in
hopes of doing something you don’t fully believe in. That will only lead to you failing.
Be realistic and take it one day at a time. You can even set a timeline of when you
want all of this done.
You should get out of your comfort zone. How can you be naturally confident if
you’re still scared of doing certain tasks? Are you scared of talking to the opposite sex?
If you think too much, do it. Come as you are. Never fear rejection. Rejection is a part
of life. You can’t always have your cake and eat it too. What you can do is bake your
damn cake and eat it. Do things that would normally scare you. What you’re trying to
do here is build your resistance to stressing out and staying calm, cool, and collected.
Fear can be a great motivator if you have the mindset to overcome it.
Next, question that little voice in your head. Everybody has an inner critic. The voice
in the back of your mind that tells you, “ I’m not good enough”, “I’m not smart
enough”, “I can’t do this”. Question that voice in your head and see the truth. You can
do anything you set your mind to. Don’t be afraid of failure because if you never fail
how can you ever grow? Learn to determine when it’s your ego talking and when it’s
your higher self talking to you. Oh yes, they talk to you. Let me explain. Your ego
tends to keep you in check. It’s your safety net that usually speaks when you are out
of your comfort zone, or when you are at odds and full of doubt. It builds a wall of
fear to keep you in check. Your ego makes you question your judgment. Now, your
higher self is more positive. It takes neither sides of good nor bad because it will
always give you an unbiased answer. Your higher self is your true self. Confident
people are in tune with their higher selves. That’s why they are so driven because they
feel they have a calling in their lives and that drives them. Are you having trouble
making a decision? Ask out loud about what you should do and you’ll receive an
answer.
Last but not least and probably the most important one of them all. Take care of
yourself. Take care of yourself by exercising, meditating, eating healthy, caring for
others, and overall practicing a healthier way of living. When you take care of
yourself you feel better about yourself. Healthier people are more confident because
they work to see results. Once they have those results they feel a sense of
accomplishment because it’s not easy to maintain yourself. It takes discipline. Apart
from having a healthier lifestyle, take time out for yourself. Don’t’ overwork yourself.
Everyone needs a break sometimes. Take a trip. Create a new memory. Share a
moment with a special someone. These are things that matter when developing natural
confidence because you need a sense of what matters to you.
That’s all for today. These are five hacks to help improve your life. I also included
helpful videos on each topic so you can have a better understanding of them.
