When I was kid, I liked imagine something because I didn’t have enough ability and time to archive
all of my desire in the reality. I had curiosity so much and reality didn’t satisfied my dream. For this
reason, I couldn’t’ decide my job because any works didn’t satisfy me enough, even any works have
their own fascination.
However, Architecture was different. First time, I had interesting to make model like “LEGO”
block, but it is not at all. Architecture has value that is thinking continually and attitude to learn many
things for people. Architecture is job to make space for people’s life. To suggest space for people,
architect should know all of people. In the microscopic point of view, architect has to know person’s
body size, character and psychology. In the macroscopic point of view, architect should know history,
culture, art and philosophy. This Continuous learning made me falling into architecture and is
basement for my own architecture.
If the infinite purpose of art is medium for communication with people, I want to classify
architecture as part of art. If the ultimate purpose of design is grant that convenience and identity for
people, architecture will be defined as part of design. However, in the reality, architect just makes
building. Architect Rem Koolhaas said that “Architect is existence that confusing between the Ideal
that can do anything and reality that can’t do anything”. In other words, even architect has ability that
can design something from small wallet to space station; actually it is not easy to build small pavilion
in the reality. The most question confront to architect is how to reduce the gap between ideal and
reality. This question matches with my character because I always worry about how to reduce the gap
between my fantasy and real world.
Through the architecture, I want to show new things for people and to suggest place that makes
people get “Enlightenment”. This “Enlightenment” is not a great thing like Christ or Buda. It just tiny,
but through this “Enlightenment”, people get different angle to see the world. Through this view point,
people can think differently than before and this event changes their preconception of space. The new
space that people didn’t have been experience will stimulate the people’s curiosity. This curiosity
makes people’s thinking more variously and this various thinking makes people to communicate each
other. Through the communication, people will realize what other people thinking and this active
gives a motivation to changes the world themselves.
To satisfy people’s communication and lifestyle, my architecture reflects environmental facts
and react people’s activity. In the exterior department, the shapes of structure organized by
environmental facts like weather, topography and urban context: movement of pedestrian, direction of
car, program of surrounding place and cultural character. These data translates as “vector” and these
vectors make “field” that makes basis of form. The form has spontaneity because this form contains
environmental information and reflect context like Grand Canyon that was made by weathering.
In the interior department, the space react people’s life. In the space, people can have many activities
like talking, moving, playing, and learning. Sometimes people want to do something alone or together.
Sometimes they need big space to use together. Sometimes the building has many people as time zone.
To satisfy these conditions, building has flexibility with many ways like Availability, Variability. To
satisfy this condition, some kind of wall will moving to change the space and this changing space
contain more people to do something together or some kind of wall didn’t moved but useful for many
purposes like smart phone. Through this wall, people can enjoy their life as their wishes like finding
information, communicate with other people and doing something together.
