2. Shot #1: Title
At the beginning of this film,
the title screen opens with a
close-up on a dictionary,
which a man later on opens.
The words “Im’-Pact” appear
on the screen.The narrator
then states the definition,
and quotes as good and evil,
as if foreshadowing
something.
3. Shot #2: Gavel
This shot faded in from the
title screen. A high angle
(HA) shot of a man banging
a gavel trying to keep things
in order.This symbolizes
that there is some symbol of
authority and order.
4. Shot #3: Chatter
This shot is at a low angle (LA) and is focused
on three individuals. The light is focused on
two people especially (the two on the right.
The one in the middle was the one with the
gavel, who symbolizes reason and order. The
man on the right is trying to convince the man
on the left that his solution of a problem is
best. The lighting could mean that he
represents right from wrong, while the man on
the left, who is against the man on the right’s
plan, is wrong. This is why his end is darker. In
addition there is a lot of unorganized chatter.
Together these three are supposed to
represent the chaos happening in that room.
5. Shot #4: Center of Attention
In this shot, the camera is focuses
on makingWalt (the man
standing) the most prominent in
the room.The angle is a eye-level
shot (EL).This angle was used to
make it look like Walt was an
important figure. A well-respected
man who everyone could turn to if
they needed a problem answered.
They set this angle up for his
character development.
6. Shot #5: Lover Boy
In this shot,Walt is given something by
one of his co-workers while heading to
his desk. He opens a box and smiles. He
looks over at a portrait of his current
lover and puts the box beside the
portrait. The camera then zooms in on
the portrait.This is significant because
it shows that Walt’s mind is always on
her and that he has a great love for her.
That is basically a shrine for her on his
work desk.
7. Shot #[6]-7: Equals
In the shot to the right,Walt is on the phone
with his mistress (Woman on the right). I
thought this scene was interesting, and it
didn’t have anything to do with the two on
the phone. The two women were the ones
that caught my eye.The camera is at a eye-
level angle and a medium long shot (MLS)
from the two. At first glance, you would
think the two were in the same status and
were friends. But if you continue to watch
the rest of this scene…
8. Shot #6-[7]: “Mrs. Important”
…You will see that the woman that was on
the left of the previous shot was her servant,
and was lower in class than the woman she
was helping. I know this because of her
perspective in this shot. Her figure in this shot
makes her looks small, and the perspective
between her and the woman she serves
portrays it as that way. Also what they wear
signifies it as well. I thought this was a good
way to portray how importantWalt’s partner
really is. She looks so glamorous.
9. Shot #8: Misunderstanding
In this scene,Walt comes home to check up on
his partner, who has a toothache, and tells her
that he has somewhere to go and wants her to
go with him. In the process of them talking
Walt accidently hits a vase, making a slap
sound, and it crashes to the floor. His partner
then yells his name. In the shot, the servant is
outside of the room they are in and was
eavesdropping on the two. When she heard
this, she became startled and left, not fully
understanding the full situation. I thought the
MLS angle was perfect for the emotion she
portrayed. It really captured the “jump of fear.”
10. Shot #10: “Lovey-Dubbey”
In this shot, the medium shot (MS) of
Walt really captures the act that his
partner puts on. She is trying to
convince him to go without her, to
avoid being around him and getting
around to her… other plans.The
lightings really connects with the
scene by making the room look
bright, but also making the
conversation sound and look like
everything is sunshine-and-rainbows
between them.
11. Shot #[11]-12: Faker
This is the scene right after Walt exits the
house. The expression on her face makes it
seems like something is up.The shot is her
removing her pouch of ice from her so-
called “toothache” and giving a slight smile
as if she got away with something. Now
with the angle and the lighting still bright,
it’s hard to understand what’s is trying to be
read here. But that all unveils itself in the
next shot. She takes a look at her watch as if
she was scheduled for something and walks
over to the window…
12. Shot #11-[12]: Scandalous
Just to watch asWalt gets into the car
and leaves the house. The low-angled and
medium close-up shot clearly let us know
that she has been planning something.
The window is significant because it
indicates that her planned worked and
that she remained inside of the house like
she wanted. She then walks over to the
phone located on a table near a chair she
sit in. She calls an operator to ask if she
can be transferred to someone. Only that
someone…
13. Shot #13: ANOTHER MAN!!!
…That’s right, another man.The scene
fades to this shot of a man that is not her
husband, but he refers to her as beautiful.
Believe it or not, but the portrait the man
is adjusting is actually the same picture
thatWalt has in his office. I thought this
was cool because this is exactly whatWalt
did before he called her.The man then sits
down in the chair in front of him in this
“MLS” and eye-level angle while smoking
a cigar.
