Draw violations
• The procedures and rules surrounding the Draw have been
discussed in other sections of this course and the course
‘Women's Lacrosse Basic Rules’, this section will list and explain
the most common Draw violations.

3. Draw
Draw violations
• Incorrect set up: player does not set up correctly
• Warning(s) first, depending on level of play
• Called as delay of game or minor foul
• Early movement: moving stick, body or hands after “ready” signal
and before the official blows the whistle
• Called as minor foul
• Early entry center circle: players entering the center circle before
the whistle
• Called as minor foul
• Restraining line violation: other players the restraining line before
the whistle or before possession or free ball
• Called as minor foul

4. Draw
Draw violations
• Illegal draw:
• There is no ‘up and away’ motion by one or both players
• Called as minor foul
• Draw is not high enough: the ball’s flight must be higher than
the players’ heads
• Called as minor foul
• If both players draw illegally, or it cannot be determined why the
draw was illegal, or the umpire determines that they did not set up
the draw correctly, there will be a redraw

5. Draw
Draw officials’ tips
• The time between goal and draw has to be minimal
• With a running clock, 10 draws taking more than 30 seconds
cost 5 minutes of playing time
• The target from goal signal to draw whistle is 30 seconds
• An official always needs to be ready before the players are
• Draws have to be quick
• There will almost never be a 100% perfect set up
• As long as one player does not have an advantage, move on
with the draw
• Always tell draw players what they did wrong when you call an
illegal draw
