Game features:
Darkout is a game that most sandbox “build-what-you-want” game fans will enjoy. Based on their
exploration and doing advanced research on the materials collected from the environment, players
will be able to use a broad range of elements to build up facilities and structures that allow them to
upgrade their equipment and skill-set. As you can see in the screenshots and also in our first video
(extracted from pre-alpha footage), the game takes a big influence from other popular and
successful previous games, like Terraria, but it is far from being a plain rip-off of this or any other
title. Darkout will bring a completely new experience to the player, frenetic, anguished and
graphically far superior to what has been seen until now in the genre.
2. In Darkout we are the only human survivor in a post-apocalyptic world, and unknown planet that
invites us to go deep into its captivating and lush forests, full of vivid colours. Our adventure starts
walking around in this exotic and mysterious world, but nobody told us that, behind the shadows,
hidden in the gloom, there are horrible and ruthless beings, whom our presence is all but pleasant.
This evil creatures are committed to destroy us without mercy, they will try to take us to the dark
side by all means. But why? the answer is simple, the light. Light will be our life and best ally in
this world full of darkness, but also their worst enemy. We will use light as power source for our
facilities and also to charge some of the most powerful weapons in the game. But also light is our
enemies main attractor, since as intense it is the light you use, as big the enemies you will attract
will be. This light vs. dark mechanics will create an increasing and frantic rhythm of play, in which
the player will desperately fight for survival above all things. Also to explore conscientiously and
research wisely will be necessary to keep alive and be able to reach a better place.
As you could imagine, Darkout will present a really
interesting mixture of strategy components, sandbox
mechanics and violent combats. It is something to
remark that the gameplay will suffer of some
variations through day-night transitions.
Your continuing search (and at the same time
dependency) of light will imply that you will find a road
plenty of painful surprises, but luckily, you will be able
to survive by taking out the best from your skills:
• Looting unknown places, hideouts with precious
treasures.
• Scavenge items after defeating your enemies.
• Breeding animals that will give you really valuable
resources for daily consumption.
• Planting trees to obtain wood.
Our protagonist will be able to fly thanks to a
jetpack she will always wear along the adventure,
moving agilely and completely free along the
map, although she will always be observed by a
good number of enemies. An important detail to
remark is the ability to improve our skills and add
new components to our character equipment, here
the influence of classics like Metroid is clearly
present. Finally, the intelligent use of the collected
resources will be a key factor to survive.
3. The development team behind Darkout:
Darkout comes out from Allgraf, a small an independent studio based in U.K. and teamed by
developers from very different countries as South-Africa, The Netherlands, France and U.K. It
started in July 2011 (before other similar projects, as Starbound, were announced), under the
direction of Adrian Banninga, an industry veteran specialized in the CG field. Previously, Adrian
worked on a number of well-known titles such as Gunman Chronicles, James Bond 007: Nightfire,
Unreal Tournament 2004, and more recently, Fairytale Fights and Kinect: Star Wars.
The game is expected to be released in Fall 2012 at a very competitive price with titles as Terraria
or Minecraft, it is also scheduled to be launched on Steam, iPad and XBLA. Also the game will
receive several free updates, since their costs will be included in the initial game purchase.
During this final process of the development, we will organize several promotions between the
community members of our forums to choose the best contributions from fans to the game universe:
writings, drawings, pictures and musics inspired by the game. The best ones will receive free copies
of the game, the privilege to have conversations with the Darkout team members, or even the
chance to have their fan art or new elements (weapons, items, etc.) designed by themselves,
included in the game.
