  4. 4. Our client's challenge A legislative change in Angola required all contractors, previously paid outside of Angola, to be paid in country and in the local currency, Angolan kwanza. Due to delays in the local banking system our client faced delays of up to a month in paying the contractors. Our solution We took on the challenge of reducing the delay in payments on behalf of our client. We liaised closely with our Angolan banks and worked with them to provide upfront visibility of the 100 plus contractor payments to be made. Subsequently, we created a bespoke solution with our Angolan banking partners, initiating the payment in Angolan kwanza and then converting it into the contractors' local currency. The outcome Despite such a complex operational change for both us and our client, every contractor received payment within two weeks of submitting their timesheet in their chosen currency of US dollars or UK pounds. We continue to offer our payroll administration solution in Angola to a growing portfolio of clients and contractors. Our client's challenge We were approached by the procurement department of a world leading oil company that needed a solutions provider with the capacity to manage and payroll an additional 60 contractors based in 20 different countries. The previous company dealing with the payroll went into administration leaving our client in a tricky situation. Our solution We tendered for the business and were subject to a detailed capability assessment of our payroll funding solution. We demonstrated our compliance and a high level of customer service and were selected ahead of three other companies to take on the project. The following day one of our representatives travelled from the UK to the Netherlands to the payrolling company’s office, where the personnel files of 60 contractors were collated over an eight hour period. The documents were returned to the UK and over the course of the following six weeks, our team contacted every individual to gain a comprehensive understanding of their circumstances including taxation obligations, insurances and money owed. The outcome Compliant solutions were tailored to each individual’s requirements including setting up the relevant insurances. Around 80% of the contractors in question were owed money - ranging from US$500 to US$100,000. We arranged all the payments with no mark-up and at no cost to our client. The previous payrolling company hadn’t kept sufficient records or arranged appropriate insurances so we kept in touch with our client via teleconferences three times a week over the six-week period, to keep them updated on our progress and any potential issues. Following the successful transfer of all 60 of these contractors onto our contracts and in response to the high level of service provided, we were appointed by the client as one of only two approved payroll providers. However, they were struggling to manage the staffing in accordance with local taxation legislation and were in need of a partner with the expertise and experience to offer a solution to their issues of fiscal compliance.   10. 10. Our client’s challenge Our client in Iraq required a manpower provider that had a credible insurance policy and could accept third party liability. They needed to transfer the risk to a company with global insurance arrangements in place who could arrange a solution on the client’s behalf. Our solution As Iraq has a developing insurance market, it wasn’t possible to provide the required public liability insurance direct from within the country. Using our specialist broker we were able to work with Lloyds of London to create a policy which responded to our client’s requirements. The outcome Using our global partnerships, we were able to offer the appropriate insurance, taking on the risk for accidental damage to property or death and injury to third parties arising from our negligence or that of the manpower we placed with the client. This provided an effective transfer of risk, giving our client the comfort and peace of mind that they wouldn’t have otherwise had.   12. 12. Our contractor’s challenge Our candidate had recently started working as an instrumentation engineer on a project in Lagos, Nigeria. On arrival he was asked to surrender his passport for processing by the Nigerian Immigration Service in Abuja, which typically takes at least 10 working days. Within four days of working on his new assignment our contractor contacted us on the way to work in severe pain. Our solution We contacted our partner, International SOS, and informed them of the medical emergency. The contractor was picked up immediately and taken to the local medical clinic, where a team of medics and a representative from NES Global Talent were there waiting for him. He had suffered a heart attack and needed to be repatriated to his hometown of Liverpool, UK, for immediate treatment. Furthermore his passport was still with the Immigration Service in Abuja. The outcome We contacted the Nigerian Immigration Service to request the immediate release of his passport. One of our staff travelled from Abuja to Lagos and within three hours of contacting us, he had his passport back. We successfully arranged for an air ambulance to fly from Paris to Lagos to pick up the contractor and evacuate him, escorted by a doctor, on a plane back to a hospital in Liverpool, where he was nursed back to health.
