Let’s begin.
4. SPEAKER TOOLKIT 2016
About us
About TED
TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are
invited to share what they are most passionate about. TED stands for Technology,
Entertainment and Design – three subjects that are broadly shaping our future.
In effect the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in every discipline
Some of the renowned TED speakers are Bill Gates, Sir Ken Robinson, Stephen
Hawking and Bill Clinton among many others.

About TEDx
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED created TEDx, a program of local, self
-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a
TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion

6. SPEAKER TOOLKIT 2016
Theme
The theme for TEDxBITSGoa 2016
is “Just Look Around”
Just Look Around
Just look around persuades one to invent,
discover and innovate, while making sure that
your ideas relate to everyday problems and
their solutions. A piece of technology or design
need not always be a brainwave; It can be
inspired form the most basic of needs. After all,
they say, “Good Engineering is obvious, great
Engineering is transparent.”

Preparation
While preparing the content of your talk, keep the following three in your mind:
Timing
Each TED/TEDx talk has a time limit of 18 minutes. If you exceed that, you will be
interfering with the presentation time of the other speakers, which you certainly
don’t want to do. Prepare your talk for around 10-15 minutes and try to focus on
one central idea because the time limit won’t permit you to address multiple
issues.
Dos
1) Tell a story. Don’t just recite facts; It is not a lecture. A good speaker takes his
audience through a journey.
2) Tell us something new. Your idea must be fresh. Even if what you are talking
about has been discussed earlier, give it a different angle.

Preparation
3) Connect with your audience. If your talk has contagious emotion, spread it! It
could be a lesson that you learnt or a story that touched you, share it with your
audience and watch the bond forming instantly.
Don’ts
1) Don’t sell from the TEDx platform. Unless we have specifically asked you to, do
not market your product, organization or services or ask for funds during your talk.
2) No political agendas. This is not the right stage to promote political, communal or
regional agendas.
3) Do not plagiarize. Your talk’s content must be original and credits should be
given wherever required.
