6. What is Cad ?
• An engineering drawing, a type of
technical drawing, is used to fully and clearly define
requirements for engineered items.
• Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use
of computer systems to help in the creation,
modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.
• CAD is mainly used for detailed engineering of 3D
models and/or 2D drawings of physical components, but
it is also used throughout the engineering process from
conceptual design and layout of products, through
strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to definition
of manufacturing methods of components.
9. Descriptions of Software's
AUTOCAD :
If you think of mechanical CAD, the first thing that
comes in your mind is AUTOCAD. AUTOCAD is
developed and distributed by AUTODESK INC. This CAD
software is mainly used for creating 2D drawings
although it can be used for 3D modeling. In my opinion,
3D modeling is not that user friendly but when it comes
to 2D drafting it is the best software available compared
to others.
11. AUTO DESK INVENTOR :
Autodesk Inventor is developed and distributed by
AUTODESK INC. It directly competes with major 3D CAD
modeling software's like Cero, NX, Catia, Solid works etc.
Its Autodesk's high end software for 3 D Modeling which
can directly competes with its competitors shown above
used by RIICO for Land Banking, Tata Technologies,
TATA Consulting Engineers Giant user of Inventor.
13. CATIA V5 :
Catia is developed and marketed by French company
Dassault Systems and has CAD/CAM/CAE support. It is
one of the major CAD software in mechanical domain. It
directly competes with Creo, NX and Inventor and is
particularly used in industries where rich surface
modeling is needed such as Aerospace, Automobiles
etc and is a PLM Software used by Airbus, BMW, Ford,
McLaren Racing, Nokia, Nikon and Sanyo.
15. SOLID WORKS :
Solid Works is a direct competitor of PRO E. It is
economical and user friendly. It is developed by Dassault
Systems. It is a major software and used by many
companies. Mostly used for solid modeling or 3 D
modeling used by Bosch, Design Dreams,
Wolverine Worldwide Inc., Alliance Space systems Inc.
(NASA) spirit rover robotic arm on mars, AAC
Engineering Systems Chicago USA.
17. PRO E OR PTC CREO :
Creo parametric formally known as Pro Engineer is
developed and marketed by Parametric Technology
Corporation (PTC). It is a CAD/CAM/CAE supported
software. Pro Engineer was the first mechanical CAD
software to bring parametric feature based 3D modeling.
Recently Pro Engineer was replaced by Creo parametric
series. Easy user interface and powerful modeling
options are advantages here and company using it are
HCL Technologies Limited, Mahindra Engineering Services
Ltd, Renault, Caterpillar, Hindustan aeronautical limited,
Hero Cycles, Rolls-Royce North America.
19. SIEMENS NX :
NX (UG or Unigraphics) is also one of the major
mechanical CAD software which is developed and
marketed by Siemens. Being CAD/CAM/CAE software, it
is rapidly growing because it has an advantage of easy
configuration with Teamcenter (PLM) which is developed
by the same company Software is used by Daimler
Mercedes, Nissan, Fiat, Chrysler, Mazda, Suzuki, General
Motors
21. SOLID EDGE
Solid Edge is developed and marketed by Siemens. It is
the lower end software which only includes CAD. All
other major software's Creo, Catia, NX are
CAD/CAM/CAE software's. It is economical and user
friendly compared to NX and used in many small scale
industries. Siemens NX is costly software which is not
affordable for students and small scale industries so
company came up with its first level software called solid
edge.
23. ANSYS :
ANSYS Mechanical software is a comprehensive finite
element analysis (FEA) tool for structural analysis,
including linear, nonlinear, dynamic, hydrodynamic and
explicit studies. It provides a complete set of elements
behavior, material models and equation solvers for a
wide range of mechanical design problems.
25. ABAQUS FEA :
Abaqus FEA(formerly ABAQUS) is a software suite
for finite element analysis and computer-aided
engineering
26. Why Designing
Today in Mechanical engineering there is a good demand
of creative designers having technical knowledge at their
core. Department of Research and Development is
responsible for all the designing and analysis process of
the product.
As per the market conditions a good designer can get
job in various industries like Automobile, Aerospace,
manufacturing and Productions, Construction,
Electronics etc so a designer have vast chances to get a
job as well as to start his/her own venture with
minimum amount of funds required.
