3. Why the flipped classroom?
• No proof of success following the traditional ELS system.
• Given that ELS students are striving ones who do not meet grade level
expectations and can be somewhat diagnosed with learning disabilities in the
absence of an intervention program, additional resources must be utilized; and
the web has unlimited resources that uses all sensory skills to activate the
process of learning.
• Academics have found that flipped classroom in ESL teaching make students
more confident and prepared for productive activities. Students had significantly
better results, almost 30% higher, when the flipped model was applied.
Importantly, flipped classroom allowed students to acquire more independent

4. PilotThe Plan:The New ELS Program
1. Idea: Introduce the flipped classroom philosophy to the administration to apply it and
enhance the learning experience for the ELS students.
2. Plan: Start up this program with 6 students twice a week. Ask for parents’ support to supply
their children with a smartphone and potentially internet connection.
3. Objective: Aim to start a revolutionary transition in my school's future to start adopting
hands on technology as a main pillar in education.
4. Drawbacks: ELS students are usually pulled out from extra curricular classes such as Art,
Music and P.E and thus they get extremely frustrated. While we think we help them out, we
tend to forget that those ELS students might be excelling at a different discipline that we are
depriving them of.Yet, using smartphones and apps at school could potentially boost their self
esteem as they will be exposed to new fun learning strategies and thus engagement should
occur.

or prior knowledge. Placement in groups is to build on each other’s knowledge and to
empower one another. Also, this is a warm up activity so students will feel rather
relaxed as the focus is not solemnly on them.
