  3. 3.  Jacob Wilk suggested the idea of an Antoinette Perry Memorial.  Brock Pemberton appointed to be a chairman.  The first awards were presented in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria on Easter Sunday 1947.  There was no official Tony Awards for the first two years.  The United Scenic Artists selected Herman Rosse’s design for the award and initiated at the third annual dinner (1949).
