Make a decision to leave your ISSUES
related to incarceration in the past.
Begin to engage in practices to move
forward in your life.
Get social security card and other forms of
identification including a birth certificate and
picture ID.
Complete available in-prison re-entry programs
including programming that allows you to earn a
degree and/or secure job training.
Clear outstanding warrants, charges and
detainers.
Clear aliases.
Seal any and all parts of the criminal history that
future employers don’t need to see.
Complete drug treatment programs while
incarcerated, develop a relationship with a
sponsor and find a community program into
which you can enroll immediately after release.
Create a job search plan to include a
resume, cover letter and portfolio.
Re-establish positive relationships with friends
and family members who are committed to your
forward movement. Create a list of the types of
people you would like to begin to include in your
friendship network.
Secure short-term housing (6 months or more).
Create a celebration plan for release.
