To research the potential of crowdsourcing i.e. crowd participation in sensing and actuation
to integrate the crowd smart phones with existing FIRE testbed infrastructures or any general
statically deployed IoT resources in order to enable a wide range of multidisciplinary experiments
with more end-user interactions, flexibility, scalability, cost efficiency and societal added value.

  • 3. Exploring direct interactions with the crowd (with smart phones) and enabling the crowd to be at the core of the research cycle. This would enable a Motivation research cycle. This would enable a better alignment of the research with the society and end-users needs and requirements.

Objectives cont’ - IoT Lab in a nutshell End-user and societal value • researching potential crowdsourcing participants interests, drivers and barriers to adoption, in order to propose an optimized model for end-user adoption and societal value creation. “Crowdsourcing-driven research” • as a new model in which the research can be initiated, guided and assessed by the crowd. Economic dimension of crowdsourcing testbed • by analyzing the potential markets and business models in order to optimize the exploitation, costs, profitability and economic sustainability of such testbeds.
