  2. 2. HOW WE STARTED The Alliance: UNA EUROPA was created relying on innovation and mobility at the core of its strategy. Small, destructured events became the basis for a systemic approach with the creation of a working group analysing existing linkages and considering improvements within the E+ programme The EU project: 1Europe was written (and financed) in order to make UNA EUROPA structurally focused on working on innovative formats for education and mobility to be developed, tested and upscaled within the Alliance, for all the target groups and levels of education represented.   3. 3. Our mobility tasks • To develop Innovative formats of mobility • To support Self-Steering Committees in the development of education formats (mobility components) To increase, innovate and enhance mobility for students and staff on the European Campus

Our mobility tasks “…The innovative nature and the challenging aspects in establishing a truly European Campus lies in the structural integration of virtual and physical space, that can offer the academic community a wide variety of fully inclusive mobility formats for them to choose from...”

Methodology Conceptualisation phase M1 – M6 • Developing mobility formats to create the “Mobility Matrix” • at least one format • for each target group (BA, , MA, PhD, Academic Staff Professional Staff) • for each kind of mobility (Physical, Blended, Virtual) • for each duration (Short and Long term). • Listening and answering to SSC* requests and needs • Observing upcoming issues and respond accordingly (eg. COVID 19) * SSC stands for Self-Steering Committees, there is one for each strategic area

Focus on the Matrix 8 • Internal observation of existing mobility formats Tool: Survey Approach: “a look at the past” • Ongoing observation of what the SSCs are developing, proposing adjustments to make their formats more sustainable and scalable. Tool: desk analysis of the Education JIFs and comments. Approach: “an eye to the present” • Filling in some gaps proposing new mobility formats not yet implemented. Tool: creativity anchored to the 1Europe future developments. Approach: “visioning the future”

Focus on JIFs for education - BAES 11 (Joint Bachelor Degree in European Studies) One of the JIFs for education in development by the academic staff of the 8 HEIs The first draft of the format has been received by the Mobility Cluster Extraction of the multiple mobility schemes included in the draft BAES (eg: Summer school, Winter School, long – term mobility, internships, study visits at EU heritage places etc..)

Focus on mobility in emergency 17 The organization of teaching activities of the first semester of academic year 2020/21 will be likely affected by the consequences of the present pandemic situation Turning a threat into an opportunity Virtual mobility - partner universities open their online teaching offer also to students enrolled in the other UNA Europa universities Blended mobility - same as the first one, but at the end of the semester each partner university organises some activities in presence involving students and professors Joint design of teaching units - Teachers will organize common teaching activities for their classes assuring forms of interaction among students attending the teaching units (joint virtual laboratories; joint working groups, etc.)
  18. 18. REALITY CHECK 18 Is virtual mobility the easiest way to internationalise our intitutions despite the travel restrictions? Is our «mobility in emergency» concept a proper virtual mobility format, according to our own definitions? Is it easy to build up a common Erasmus + agreements «package» for the 8 partners of the alliance and to use them to enhance our cooperation quickly?

Success stories 19 Some formats are ready to be launched (PhD workshops and UNA CHAIRS) The emergency phase gave us the opportunity to think and act together as a real community of people: UNA.TEN has been the product of our strong, internal and external committment Virtual mobility of staff already in place since all the meetings had place online, actually more than scheduled in the project GANTT. Working together with the academics helped both administrators and professors to think out of the box: new formats are being developed and we are combining mobility and education: they are designed together, will rise together and will not be complementary or parallel experiences, but an unique, innovative, educational product
