• Multilateral Environmental Agreements: consultation meeting

• EU Water acquis approximation: Work on the Roadmap for
implementation of CEPA provisions initiated
• Support in developing a water-food security policy in Armenia: A
study on the reform of subsidies in the irrigation sector of Armenia
launched and first results to be discussed at the next NPD meeting. A
team of local experts commissioned . The State Committee for Water
Systems is a key partner for this work.

11. Azerbaijan: Result 1
• Multilateral Environmental Agreements: Support to finalization of
national targets under the Protocol on Water and Health
• Towards a National Water Strategy: Finalisation of the national water
strategy is underway. A range of consultations with different
Ministries and stakeholders was held in Nov 2017 to discuss the
comments and revisions to be made in the final document.
Provisions of the new bilateral agreement between AZ and the EC will
be taken into consideration in the final draft to be discussed in May
2018.
• Transpoundary water cooperation: Consultations between
Azerbaijan and Georgia on the draft co-operation agreement on the
Kura river basin organised in Tbilisi (05.10.2017).

26. Georgia: Result 1
• Towards a National Water Strategy: Work is underway to draft a
Policy (Concept) Paper providing a long-term vision for further policy
developments in the water sector of Georgia. It will serve as a
conceptual framework for the National Water Strategy. Discussion
and agreeing upon long-term objectives for the water sector will take
place at a next NPD meeting in June 2018.
• Legislative reform: The final version of the “Analyses on
Harmonisation of the Georgian Draft Water Law with Other Related
Legislative Acts” submitted to the Ministry (November 2017).
• Transboundary water cooperation: bilateral consultations between
Azerbaijan and Georgia on the draft co-operation agreement on the
Kura river basin in Tbilisi (05.10.2017).

43. Ukraine: Result 1
Multilateral Environmental Agreements: First stage of revision on national
targets under the Protocol on Water and Health completed (baseline
analysis). Drafting of targets initiated.
Towards a National Water Strategy: June 2017, proposals made on the
role and functions of existing water governance structures and their ability
to conform to the requirements of the WFD. A meeting with MENR in June
2017 to present initial thinking on this matter, led to production of a
discussion paper which informed a Round table on "Reforming Water
Management System in Ukraine” held by the MENR on 20 July 2017 in Kyiv.
A background analysis is underway to produce a concept paper.
NPD Steering Committee meeting took place on 28 Nov 2017.
Transboundary cooperation: Inputs to preparatory meeting for the
establishment of the bilateral Moldovan-Ukrainian Dniester Commission
under the 2012 Dniester Treaty in Chisinau (05.04.2018).
