Hello, my name is Chris Duerschner, I’m the president of the University of Nebraska Student Chapter and I’d like to thank everybody here for taking the time to attend this conference; it means a lot to myself and to all the members of my chapter. I hope you all have a wonderful time and walk away as more competent and compassionate engineers.
I’d like to start by recognizing each chapter in attendance. We have representatives from 13 chapters including members from:
After this welcome, Cathy Leslie will give the keynote address on the State of EWB USA. Following that, Gina Gansmann will host a short awards presentation for the region. After a short break, Melissa Montgomery will present on guidelines for documenting design. Many projects become postponed due to very preventable inadequacies in design documentation and Melissa will common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
Our chapter has been privileged over the years to have the firm support of the Nebraska Civil Engineering Department. We’re fortunate today to have Dr. Daniel Linzell, the chair of that department, here to offer some words of welcome.
Next, I’d like to hand the floor over to Gina Gansmann, President of the Midwest Regional Steering Committee.
Next, I’d like to hand the floor over to Gina Gansmann, President of the Midwest Regional Steering Committee.
Cathy Leslie is in her 11th year acting as Executive Director of EWB-USA. A graduate of Michigan Technological University and a former peace corps volunteer, she has over 20 years of experience in the development sector. Throughout her years of involvement in EWB-USA, she has shown determination and selflessness, in fact serving her first 4 years as Executive Director on a volunteer basis. We are very honored to have her here with us today, so let’s give Cathy a warm welcome.
