  incredible

kinds

  colors

  each	
  color	
  highlights	
  different	
  nutrients	
  that	
  help	
  your	
  body	
  stay	
  strong,	
  alert,	
  and	
  
healthy.

  we	
  encourage	
  you	
  to	
  EAT	
  THE	
  RAINBOW

  • 1.     Complimentary Materials: 1.  Powerpoint  Presentation  &  Fuel  up  chant  (poem)     2.  Lemon  Velvet  Smoothie  Recipe       15 minute Assembly Outline / Script : Principal  will  welcome  the  students  and  introduce  kitchen  staff,  ODNC  staff,  &  nutrition  staff.         INTRODUCTION  [3  -­‐  5  minutes]   OREGON DAIRY & NUTRITION COUNCIL • Background  on  Fuel  Up  to  Play  60:  Fuel  up  to  play  60  encourages  YOU  to  “fuel  up”  with  low-­‐fat  and  fat-­‐ free  dairy,  fruits,  vegetables,  and  whole  grains  and  to  “get  up  and  play”  for  at  least  60  minutes  a  day!       FUEL  UP…  [3-­‐5  minutes]   NUTRITION SERIVICES “Did  you  know  the  food  that  you  eat  can  affect  how  much  energy  you  have  to  play  and  learn?”   If  you  like  to  PLAY  and  be  ACTIVE,  give  me  a  thumbs  up  –  high  in  the  air!     We  all  love  to  play  and  be  active,  but  how  can  we  do  that  unless  we  are  getting  the  right  kind  of  food  to   keep  us  strong  and  healthy?  Fruits  and  vegetables  are  incredible  because  there  are  so  many  different   kinds  and  colors  -­‐  each  color  highlights  different  nutrients  that  help  your  body  stay  strong,  alert,  and   healthy.  This  is  why  we  encourage  you  to  EAT  THE  RAINBOW  So,  how  can  you  do  this?  -­‐  Aim  for  3   different  colors  of  fruits  and  vegetables     • When  we  mix  our  fruits  and  veggies  with  whole  grains,  protein,  and  low-­‐fat  or  fat  free  dairy  –  we   create  the  perfect  meal  to  get  us  ready  to  learn  and  play  –  all  day.     • What  is  one  way  we  can  do  this?  How  about  a  fruit  smoothie!?     o Call  up  student  to  ride  the  smoothie  bike     o While  student  is  blending  the  smoothie  –  have  2  students  read  the  chant  and  encourage  audience   to  follow  as  the  smoothie  is  mixing.       …TO  PLAY  [3-­‐5  minutes]   SCHOOL PRINCIPAL • So  now  that  we’ve  fueled  up  with  all  kinds  of  delicious  foods.  What  are  we  going  to  do  with  all  of  this   energy!?     • What  does  it  mean  to  be  ACTIVE?  (Call  up  the  students  that  dressed  up  to  highlight  what  they  do  to  stay   active  (uniform,  etc.).     o “Raise  your  hand  if  you…”  Play  an  instrument;  ride  a  bike;  walk  to  school;  do  chores  at  home;   play  a  sport;  like  to  dance;  skateboard;  hula  hoop…etc     o These  are  all  wonderful  ways  of  increasing  your  physical  activity  outside  of  school.     How  can  we  be  ACTIVE  at  school?     • Who  in  here  loves  recess?  Can  we  be  ACTIVE  at  recess?   o  I’d  like  to  show  you  something  that  will  help  you  “Ramp  Up  for  Recess”  –  So  for  starters  -­‐  We   have  a  game  to  play.  I’m  going  to  call  up  a  team  of  demonstrators  and  it’s  your  job  to  GUESS   which  play  works  game  they  are  playing.   o Call  up  the  students  that  will  demonstrate  the  game   § 5th  Grade  Class  Demo  /  Audience  Guesses  which  Playworks  game  the  kids  are  playing)   § Show  the  kids  the  awesome  equipment  and  they  can  play  games  like  this  at  recess!     Kickoff Assembly Outline 2015  ©  Erin  Audiss
