More than 2 billion cups of coffee are drunk every day in the world,
and a large part produces non-recyclable waste
Novamont has developed compostable capsules made of Mater-Bi with over
60% of raw material of renewable origin.
The Coop Italia’s coffee Capsules are already on the market. The compostable
capsules can be disposed of together with organic waste allowing the reduction
of packaging waste.

• The standard EN 13423 “Requirements for
packaging recoverable through composting and
biodegradation. Test scheme and evaluation
criteria for the final acceptance of packaging”
describes a standard set of criteria for
determining whether a material can be
considered “compostable” and therefore
recyclable through the composting of organic
waste.
• EN 13432 is an "harmonized" standard, since it
was cited in the Official Journal of the European
Communities* as an implementation standard
for the European Directive on packaging and
packaging waste (94/62/EC).
